You should never use cruise control when driving in heavy traffic or when the roads are wet or snow covered. You always need to be in control of your vehicle. When a vehicle has its cruise control on, it may begin to slide due to the set speed being too high for ability of the tires to maintain a grip on the road surface in poor road conditions. New drivers, especially, should get used to the feel of the speed of the car, and learn to manage its speed by using the accelerator to gain experience and skill. Cruise control is a slightly more advanced level of driving for use once you have learned to control your speed and have a "feel" for your vehicle, and some experience in anticipating various hazards regarding weather and road conditions. Cruise control is great for long highway drives during daytime hours on dry roads. Using cruise control on long trips prevents leg and foot fatigue, maintains a steady speed to increase fuel efficiency and prevents you from getting speeding tickets too. |

You need to be able to adjust your speed without using your brakes. This means using the engine to allow the car to slow down. When you use your brakes you start to build up water in front of your tires increasing the risk of hydroplaning (your tires float on top of the rain water) and losing control. |

When you operate your cruise it accelerates to maintain a constant speed which may very well fluctuate by 5km/hour or so. You might be travelling uphill and find that it all of the sudden starts to accelerate when you really only want to increase your speed gently. A sudden increase in speed could start you aqua-planing with disasterous results. Allways adjust your driving ( and speed ) to the road and weather conditions. |

Because if your Tires begin to slip unevenly, the Vehicle's On Board Computer will sense that more Power needs to be applied to compensate for it, and you can quite possibly go into an unwanted level of Acceleration. |

in case you start to hydroplane, to deactivate cruise you tap the brakes. you do not want to tap the brakes if you start to hydroplane |

The cruise control is designed for normal road conditions. It doesn't know when the pavement is slippery. Under slick conditions, you need to be in complete control and monitoring road conditions. You're more likely to notice hydroplaning if you are not relying on the cruise control.
With some cars, it is possible that the wheels will actually spin faster when the cruise control is on and the car hits a slippery spot. When the tires make contact with firm road again, the car can skid or lose control.
On most cars, the cruise control is disengaged by tapping on the brake. In an emergency, this adds a fraction of a second to your response time as well as the risk of the braking action itself causing a loss of control on a slippery road. |
