They were talking about it on the news and i missed the reason. Anyone know?

Its called "Earth hour" or "Earth Day". And we don't have to do anything if we choose not to. The purpose of this hour or day is to demonstrate what conserving energy should be. Its basically a way to promote awareness of global warming. Its a day that many have decided to save energy. In my opinion its not really worth turning out your lights for "one hour". The problem with that is, its only one hour. Doing it for that one hour doesn't save enough energy. Secondly it should be a daily habit to conserve energy, not a day's worth. That is the problem. It becomes a gimmick rather than a routine. So its basically a way to cause awareness, you don't have to if you don't want to, but I do encourage you to save energy daily, not just for today.
