Why does India have lot less auto accidents than U.S even though many do not follow the traffic rules in India?

There were nearly 6,420,000 auto accidents in the United States in 2005. The financial cost of these crashes is more than 230 Billion dollars. 2.9 million people were injured and 42,636 people killed. About 115 people die every day in vehicle crashes in the United States -- one death every 13 minutes.
In 2005 in India there were 429,000 car accidents, 92,000 people were killed and 465,000 injuries.
Thank you for any good answer. Additional Details Ya. But it still is funny how we can still manage to get car out of an half inch. gape.

Well I cannot be specific but one reason can be that roads in USA are in very good condition which feel like that you will speed up your car and run. Speed leads to many accidents. While in India they are not, so people are bit careful about it. This lead to less accidents.
Your question is very logical! =)
Well, The most important factor is speed. While congested Indian roads do help reduce the actual speed one drives at, the scenario is opposite in the US.
The legal speed limit on most freeways is 65mph and in uncongested situations, one can go upwards of 80mph(120 kmph) so long as no one has reported you.
The higher the speed you travel at, the lesser time you have to react to the environment, to mistakes of other drivers, to your own mistakes, etc. Accidents after all are split-second occurences. The faster you drive, the smaller your safety window |

PS Pranav, copying my opinion does not make you smart. |

Accidents occur less when everybody follows traffic rules and if every does not follow traffic also. They will be more only if some people follow traffic rules and others do not. For example in India the rules is keep left. If somebody drive left and somebody right then there will be chaos and accidents.
But nowadays nobody in India follows traffic rules that is (for example)if every drives only on right then the accidents will be naturally low
Do you understand? |

probably because its impossible to drive fast at all and there is lots of time to plan a maneuver around people and stuff since it can take an hour to just drive a few meters lol |

Almost every household in the US has an average of 1.5 adult drivers who individually drive, on average, 28 miles per day. That makes for approx 125 million registered drivers, which translates into 2.5 billion miles traveled per day. Compare that to India, where there are less than 60 million registered drivers averaging 6 miles per day, giving you 360 million miles per day. And the big one, the average speed for a US driver is approx 55 miles per hour, and the average speed in India is approx 15 miles per hour. To give a comparison, a typical speed limit in the US is 65 miles per hour. Compared to that the fastest train in India travels at a little over 56 miles per hour and even that is only sporadic, and only at night.
Mile for mile, and driver to driver, there are less accidents in the US. By percentages, driving in the US is much safer than in India. |

The basic reasons are Speed, Posthaste driving, Alcohol & teenager Driver. In india most of the people follow safe driving practice. The speed limit in US and Gulf countries are 120 KM Max so you imagine in that situation if any accident take place minimum 5-7 vehicle colide together and there will be fatalities but in india at a time max 2-3 vehicle meet such a way. we just think thar americans are following rules and regulation but practically it's not true. you may find 15 years by driving the car in US street and having Pistol in hand. Similar practice in gulf too.
