My thoughts exactly.
How stupid is it to have a train wreck in this day and age. If the engineer missed the signal, there should have been lights flashing in the cab, an automatic emergency shutdown and notification to the other train as well.

That is the problem when companies are supposed to run for a profit, money comes before safety. Thats why the public transport in sensible countries is State run and owned.
Even then, though, you still have to rely on the commonsense of the person in control of the train, even with s0me of the failsafes available.! |

Trains have amazing safety systems. However, when an operator makes a mistake, it often isn't physically possible to stop/slow the train in time. This is because they are trying to run a victorian network to modern expectations. |
