I ask the same question for some drivers who can't remember to turn them on at night!
I think one of the coolest safety options I have seen cars have is automatic headlights. My last two cars have had this option. They have daytime running lights and automatically switch to night mode when it gets dark out/rains/enter a tunnel/etc. You still have the ability to override and turn them on yourself, but I have found the systems works really well and if you rely on it, you never have to worry about forgetting to turn your lights off! |

They're fairly ignorant of the importance. they think "I don't need my lights on, I can see fine". They don't realize the lights aren't for THEM, it's for everyone else, so they can see their stupid fat butt driving in the pouring rain and fog. |

Humans are creatures of habit. If you're not used to turning on your lights until it gets dark, then you don't think about it.
My truck has the auto headlamps and will turn their selves on when it gets dark and they will turn off in the daylight at dawn.
I am surprised at just how well the system works, rarely do I get the lights turning on and off in a short period of time, only if I go through a dark tree lined street for a good length of time at dusk. |

It is terrible!!
I cant see them half the time!
I know most states require that if your windshield wipers are on , due to weather, then you need to have your lights on as well.
Most new cars now come with automatic lights, meaning once the car is on , so are the lights!!
My car is not automatic but I always turn on my lights, regardless of the weather......its safe driving and common sense!! |

I think that the majority of drivers do,one thing that really gets me going are the morons who have their fog lights on in the rain, they either don't realise or don't care that the reflection off the wet roads can dazzle the driver behind!!!!! |

As they (apparently) say in the US - 'Wipers on, Lights On' might as well be safe and be seen! |

This type of person thinks of no-one else but themselves and probably thinks that when lights are on it is draining the battery.Other adjectives that come to mind are thoughtless,careless,dangerous,selfish-a... someone who lacks driving skills/knowledge. |

This is a good & valid question. However I cannot answer for the retards who do not drive with their lights on during rain. Especially the MORON with the silver car! |

I think a lot of people are used to their lights turning on automatically at night - so they don't even think to manually turn their lights on in rainy situations.
Now that have a car that has lights that automatically turn on, I sometimes forget to turn them on when it is raining. |

I honestly think because they are incompetent human beings. |

bad drivers.
in Canada, when you switch on car engine and move on the road light must be switched on day or night. |

Simple equation. Car in gear = brain in neutral. |

I thought all states required lights when raining.....some may not realize it is raining, or maybe they need new lights....I certainly think lights keep things safer. |

because the average driver is stupid lorry drivers can not see them in the rain as the spray from there wheels hides them so for your own safety make sure you are the first to turn your lights on |

I only do it if it's heavy. But light rain (drizzle) in a 30mph zone in broad daylight - I don't. |

If the visibility is not affected, then the lights need not be on, if your in a storm proper, then you'd be nuts not to have your lights on.
So how hard is it raining and what's the visibility like? |
