Why don't people use their turn signals?

Does this drive anyone else nuts? When someone is in front of you and turns without a signal, causing you to slam on your brakes - isn't that completely rude?

According to Response Insurance, a national car insurer, 42% of those drivers say they don’t have enough time, 23% admit they are just plain “lazy,” 17% don’t signal because when they do, they forget to turn it off, 12% admit they are changing lanes too frequently to bother, 11% say it is not important, 8% say they don’t signal because other drivers don’t, and perhaps most disturbing 7% say forgoing the signal “adds excitement to driving.”

The Company identified several driver-types when it comes to ignoring turn signals – Impulsive, Lazy, Forgetful, Swervers, Ostriches, Followers, and the Dare Devils.

“The bottom line is that most drivers are failing to see the importance of using their turn signals,”

I know. It takes a second to turn it on. This is why there are so many accidents. I never assume when I drive. I also love when people do have their turn signal on and they aren't turning. I just leave plenty of space in front of me when I drive just in case.

Friendly Stranger..
It is out of sheer ignorance and inconsideration of other drivers. I have seen it many times and yes, it is quite annoying. But the interesting part is, that the one's that do this have a higher accident rate than others that actually use their turn signals. So they end up having to pay more out of their pocket for not using their car responsibly and causing accidents. So even though it is annoying to us, they are the one's that pay ultimately. Some people just don't understand that when you drive that way you are sending a signal to other drivers that you are a careless individual. This world is full of people like that, we just have to make sure we are using our turn signals and being responsible.

Not only is it rude, it is illegal.

I place part of the blame on old pharts like myself who have just gotten too comfortable and lazy in their driving habits.I live in the country and I rarely have to use my signals because there simply are not any other vehicles around 99.9% of the time. But that made me careless. When I drove into the city I found that I was forgetting to use the signals.

So now I use my turn signals even if it is 3:00 in the morning and there is no other car in sight. I also drive a School Bus and I have had to adjust my driving habits accordingly.

I also blame our driver education system. With the rising costs of driver education courses are being shortened to save money. There simply is not enough importance being placed on driving etiquette and the law.

Because there are many drivers out there who are either too distracted or inconsiderate to think of anyone else on the road.

It is rude, however, you may be following too close too. Especially if you have to slam on your brakes.
