People do not want the government in every thing they own. Some people like privacy. Big brother is bad to many politicians abuse their power.

A very good question!

In a free society an individual is expected to follow the law. If breathalyzers were installed in every vehicle I believe most citizens would have no problem using them. The problem with someone who is going to drive drunk is that; if they are willing to break the law to drive drunk, what's going to prevent them from bypassing the breathalyzer test? They have breathalyzers installed in the cars of convicted drunk drivers in the Houston, Texas area now, and they are bypassed all the time as documented on an investigative report done by Channel 9.

It is very easy to make a law that requires a breathalyzer in every vehicle. If you do not take into account the United States Constitution, Bill of Rights, 4th and 5th Amendment, a law mandating this requirement sounds right, but instead would violate our constitution.

plus too expensive. It would have to be reset every time the car was started. Just another thing to go wrong with a car.

Well, you are probably a few years early.... the government's stance is that we have no rights when it comes to driving, only privileges. Privileges which can be modified or taken away at any time!

The technology is there.... The legal necessities are all in place.... all we need is for the legislature to vote to make it law! I know it is coming.... you'll probably have to swipe your license, too!

A new engine management system able to wirelessly communicate with the DMV/Police was developed almost ten years ago.... it was suppressed by a media leak, but I'm sure the technology will be seen in vehicles soon!

EDIT: BTW I DO NOT agree with this scenario! I just wanted to post as unbiased answer as possible.

it's an infringement on privacy. It's a punishment for people who have been proven to be unable to follow the rules and put the lives of others at risk.

Most people have enough maturity to account for their own actions.

I will give you the headings and you elaborate:

- not every one drink
- and if some drink they don't get drunk
- if car manufacturers has to cater for ever cause in all there cars ... then cars will be priced at non affordable Dollars.
-another nasty reason could be they wanted more crashes so that they sell more cars
-another nasty reason: the state won't permit them other wise no more fines; lawyers judges jailers won't have work on & on & on etc....

good luck mate

Cost is one reason. Since the majority of drivers do NOT drink and drive, it would be a costly installation for car owners who would never have occasion to use it.

Here's an alternative solution. In every bar, there should be a set of lockers. Everyone entering should lock up their keys and, the keys could not be retrieved until passing a breathalyzer test.
