I have nothing against motor cycles. I just think that it is so dangerous to drive between cars. Am I the only one who sees how dangerous this is? Why would there be such a law?

It isn't. In NYC, where I work, we (the NYPD Highway Patrol), are constantly on the lookout for motorcycles that operate in this manner. Unfortunately, as we all look forward to the warm days of spring & summer, the men & women of the NYC Highway Patrol kind of cringe.
The warm weather brings out these young men & women on their motorcycles, and they think that they own the highways. We routinely stop them for riding between lanes and that unsafe weaving.
We even have 1 Officer who utilizes his brand new Dodge Charger simply to apprehend motorcycles. Some of the violations we hit them with are: 1252(c) Riding Between Lanes, 4-02(c) Dangerous Driving, 1128A Unsafe Lane Change, 1163D Fail to Signal Lane Change, 1129A Tailgating, 1180D Speeding in Zone, 1212 Reckless Driving, 1182 Engaging in Speed Contest, 10-163 Participate or Spectate @ Speed Contest, 240.20 Disorderly Conduct, & 120.20/120.25 Reckless Endangerment. |

i own a repair shop ,and there is a limit to what they can do ,if the right cop sees them doing certain things he can and will give them a ticket,i have seen it happen before,but i do agree with you its dangerous,but most of the time they do get away with it,but occasionally you,ll see one of them getting a ticket for doing this also,good luck hope this helps. |

i as a rider split lanes only when i absolutely think its safe to. You're speaking of the idiots that do this going about 80 to 90 mph in heavy traffic and trust me they don't represent the majority of the riders who are responsible. Motorcycle engines heat up pretty quick when idling in traffic so to prevent being on the side of the road waiting for your ride to cool down we simply split lanes of traffic. The way i understand it is that it's an unofficial law but its discretionary between the rider and the police. Act in an unsafe manner get a ticket or get hurt, or be responsible and do it in a safe manner. But don't be an *** and pull out in front of a rider just because you don't like it. Carma will get you later. |

It is not legal, it is just that they are small enough to get away with it. when I rode my bike, I didn't do it. I stayed in line with all the other traffic and waited my turn.
If you are on a bike and are passing cars on the right side, who is to say that one of the guys you are passing isn't getting ready to make a right hand turn.
It is reckless driving in my opinion, and in the police eyes too. |

I agree 100%!!!
Even though I am a GUY, that does NOT necessarily mean I have to be into motorcycles and driving one along with taking the risk to kill / seriously injure not only myself but those around me. |
