There's only a certain amount of information that can be held actively in your mind at one time (working memory) when we need to focus attention to a more specific task it will take up more of this working memory capcity so other less important information (radio) will be compromised.
Also, if the radio is playing something with words, this may interfere with subvocal speech being used by the person. |
