Why is it illegal to put money in other people's parking meters?

Because the city wants the meter to run out so they can write them tickets and charge them an ungodly amount for an expired meter!

i think that is a dumb law...if you want to be a good sumaritan you shouldn't be punished

I can't figure this out either! It seems there are laws in place with the pure intent to harrass and oppress people. This is ridiculous.

Its like taking candy from a child, except you are getting into the coffee, and doughnut fund.

I never heard of such a thing! Very rarely do you hear of people doing little random acts of kindness such as that. If they are getting punished then it is no wonder!

I didn't know it was. It's a good gesture, especially during the holidays.

Wow, it would be shocking if this was true. But then again, the government is not always right and there are lots of bad laws on the books.

I say go for it anyway, and put money in their meter if you get the urge. Its no worse than stopping a fight. If the government is prepared to stop someone from doing a good deed, i say let them charge/arrest me and see what happens. Seems that a law like that needs to be taken down anyway and is probably a violation of our rights.

how can anyone say the owner of the car didn't give you the money to put in the meter for them??????? This would never hold up in a court of law. You will find if you plead not guilty to a parking ticket 9 times out of 10 they will not show up at trial and the ticket will be thrown out............THATS NO BULL TRY IT
