If the spaces are directional (where they're angled and the roadway in the garage is one-way), it is pretty hard to back into a directional spot going the wrong way because you'll have to turn more than 90 degrees to do so. Not only is it somewhat difficult to do this, but you'll be going the wrong way on the one-way ramp while you're backing in. If someone comes around the corner etc., they could hit you I guess.

If the spaces are 90 degrees from the wall and it's a two-way roadway in the garage, then it's a little less clear to me why you can't back in to a spot - maybe it's because it takes 50 times longer for most people to maneuver their car/truck to try and back into a spot than to just pull in forward.

That or maybe the mall wants people pulling in forward so when they load their trunks they are doing it in plain sight (since the trunk will be facing the roadway and not the wall) to reduce the risk of theft from other people's cars and to reduce shoplifting from the stores?

Because many people can barely make it into the space without brushing against other cars while driving forward, so they don't want to have any jams in the middle of the lot if someone decides to back in.

It's safer, and easier to park.

I believe it is safer to reverse into a parking place as when you leave you can see whats coming

cause the mall is busy and they dont want people trying to back up to get into a parking space while traffic is trying to get by

Less accidents will happen by parking this way....

I think its because when you are parking and when you are getting out of the space, if a car happens to crash into you, it will only hit the back and not injure you.

Hope this helps :)

There are two main reasons as far as I am concerned:

1. Aesthetics. It gives a cheap look to the mall (or anyplace) when cars are parked haphazardly. Unity is always preferable to disunity.

2. Safety. Cars "backed in" may give the wrong appearance, as in "robbery" or "get-away" cars.

It may be just simple rational thinking. What other way would you park? People in general have no idea how to parallel park and it would not allow as many vehicles to use the same space as parking facing the wall, not to mention most people don't know how to properly back into a space (depth perception is usually off when backing up).
