Why is it so important .....?

that we wear seatbelts , ( other than collecting money ) but are kids on school buses dont have that option

because the state pay for the school buses. They have no trouble taking your money if you don't wear it. On the other hand they don't want to spend the money to put seat belts in. That's money they could be spending on them self's. ( That's just my theory)

the buses are heavier and safer than cars (& no seatbelts saves money)

I just answered this question a few weeks ago....Larger school buses have a system called compartmentalization. They have found through crash testing that school aged children and older fair much better with this system than the preschool children. Smaller buses (10,000lbs and under) are required to have seatbelts b/c they usually transport preschoolers.

Here is a link to where I answered http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/ind... I also cut and pasted below.

Buses that are 10,000lbs or less have seatbelts in them, but a regular school bus does not. Public transportation buses that have seats like that of a school bus do not require them either. Passenger seating and crash protection, known as "compartmentalization" is required on school buses. Compartmentalization is a passive occupant protection system using the concept of eggs in a carton. The seats must have flexible, enery-absorbent high seat backs. The combination of these seat backs and narrow spacing creates a compartment within which each occupant is confined in a crash....make sense?? As pp stated, Bus transportation, or to be specific, school bus transportation, is 8 times safer than passenger vehicles. Buses are larger and heavier than most other vehicles. The crash forces are distributed throughout the vehicle differently and are experienced by the occupants differently

Because, before I was medically retired. Nothing was more disturbing than seeing body parts and brains all over the inside of a car because some idiot didn't put his seatbelt on. It is crazy kids on school busses don't have them. Once a busload of kids are killed, they will require them.

It is proven in hundreds of studies that school busses are safe, seat belts in them would create a whole new set of problems, especially for the youngest that would need supervision getting belted up, and help getting out in an emergency. By far the greatest number of injuries to children who ride school busses occur outside the bus.

The seats in a school bus are constructed in such a way as to be pretty dangerous with a seatbelt. And kids hit each other with them. Only a fool who believes in lotteries would not wear one in their personal vehicle.

Edit: When the sainted Princess Di plowed into a tunnel abutment at 100 mph the only one who survived, and he wasn't even badly hurt, was the bodyguard. Why do you suppose that was?

As stated above, buses are safer because they are heavier and they often drive slow. Even if they put seatbelts in them the kids wouldn't want to wear them. Know why? Because stupid kids would do stuff to the belts, put slime and boogers on them. Put glue in the latches and cut the belts, etc. It would be a huge financial liability for the school district.

That question has been up for debate for years. I feel the kids should be belted, most buses have a metal band that runs over the top of the seats, for support and style. In a wreck, those kids heads, faces, chests are slamming into that metal, and suffering injuries. I suppose there will be a day when buses do offer belting or some other form of restraint, to hold you in your seat.

They prevent you from being thrown from the car. That's what happened to a friend of a friend. Two guys were riding in a car. It went off the road and flipped over. The one who wore his seat belt lived and the one who wasn't wearing one was thrown from the car and killed. I've never felt safe on a school bus. They should put seat belts in every vehicle.
