Red is a colour the brain responds to faster than other colours. So I guess that's why.

BlueCat
so it is a universal colour and everyone from anywhere will be aware of its meaning

should we make some green and see what happens?

To match with blood color...........It means take this warning as important as ur blood is important to life..........

rishabh
it is so because red colour can be seen from a distance as compared to other colours and it is the international colour for any warning or danger.

from all the colors, red has the highest frequency... it can travel faster than the rest of the colors... so for brake lights n all the emergency lights are in red so that the light can reach your eye faster than the rest of the colors so that you can respond faster to the emergency

A's
red to people means blood.
and blood to all is a fatal and dangrous, so when a red alert comes it means that someone or something is in jeopardy
and that opens their minds and awake them to the situation they are in.
its kinda psycic, and personal thinking...
hope it makes a difference!

Well.. the underlying scientific reason is that RED is less scattered than other colors so we can clearly recognize RED even from far. One of the reasons why SUN SET is red/purple/yellow.

It can travel to the longest distance among the visible spectrum. That is why even your tail-lights are red in colour.
And the other two colours of the traffic signal, ORANGE and GREEN are the next most visible colours of the visible spectrum.

And a good example is the red skies during sunset and sun-rise. It is only the red wavelength that travels for the longer distance than normal to be seen. Because all the other rays are scattered and don't reach the viewer's eyes. It is the red colour that is able to travel the added distance during the evenings and early mornings.

They stand out more and get your attention.
It is a universal colour and everyone knows that when you see something red flashing, it wants your attention.
You wouldnt want to look at something which was dull, and grey. Would you? Nahhhhh. Red stands out. It is more intense to look at, and our brain instantly responds to it, rather than other colours.

Did you know that the colour red makes you hungry?
Which is why fast food places, (Mc Donalds, KFC etc.) are all a red colour. Amazing huh?

Red is a very intense color for our eyes, reds and oranges are more likely to draw our attention than other colors.

Red has the shortest wavelength and highest frequesncy in the VIBGYOR spectrum, hence lowest scattering. It is due to this that it appears very prominent and the naked human eye cannot fail to see it. Because of this property it is used in all warning signals, hazard signs etc.

'VIBGYOR' means violet, indigo, blue, yellow, orange and red when it combined it will become white. The prominent colour is red. Hence red colour used for signals, alerts and easily visible from a distance.
