Why is it unlawful to ride 4-wheelers in the street???

Not only is it unlawful, but it is very dangerous.

4-Wheelers lack safety features that standard automobiles have. These include protection and proper lighting for operation on roads.

For example, last month in my city, a young man crashed into another vehicle when he ran a stop sign while riding on a 4-wheeler in the street. He spent one month in the hospital. He totaled the other vehicle. This is just another reason why 4-wheelers should not be ridden on the street.

Also, if someone is seen riding in the street on a 4-wheeler, then they can get the 4-wheeler impounded by police. The cost of getting it out of impound is high.

I believe it is because they are not equipped with the mandatory safety equipment needed to make them safe for the street. (lights, horn, turn signals, brake lights ,etc.)

Coz the rider presents a threat to themselves and others, especially others, when they do this. Can't tell you how many times I've almost hit someone who was riding on the road in the dark.... And I only recently stopped being really angry with four wheeler riders and stopped honking when I drove past them....

Because it is dangerous! You are too low for drivers of pick-up trucks to even notice, you have no side protection, no seat belts, not proper lighting, no air bags, not proper brakes for a street vehicle, no roll-over protection, no windshield, no shock-absorbing bumpers, etc.

Any vehicle you wish to drive on a city street or state road must have certain equipment on board in order to be legal.

If your 4-wheeler doesn't have brake lights, turn signals, or a rear-view mirror, for example, then it cannot legally be driven on a street.

it many places it is acualy lawful, with minor modifications, it can be registered as an off highway vehical, which means you can drive it on side roads, but not the freeway.

Or it can be registered as an Underspeed Vehicle. underspeed vehicles must have a top speed of 20mph OR not originaly disigned for road use(which should include an atv)

both of these registrations require turn signals, headlight, windshield, horn, and breaklight. but there might be some other restrictions, altough minimal.

as far as "no bumper, roll protection, not vin, ect. motorcycles and three weelers dont have the first 2.

and, you dont have to have a vin to have a title, all you need to get a title is have proof of ownership, and go to the deputy registrar's office

Well, let's start with: no bumpers, no doors, no roll-over protection, no turn lamps, no tag, incorrect lighting, incorrect tires, poor brakes, no airbags, no side collision protection, no emission testing, no windsheild wipers, no WINDSHEILD, etc, etc.
