Why is speeding and driving fast bad?

Because you have less time to react to problems or changing conditions. |

IF you have to ask then lets hope you can not drive ever. |

It's a safety thing. The faster you're going the smaller amount of reaction time you have and the more likely something is to go wrong.
Even just going 5kph faster will take you a lot longer to stop in an emergency situation than you think it will.
To all those other people saying it's a stupid question, it's not. It's a reasonable question if you don't know the answer.
So yes, it all comes down to safety. |

Because when things do go bad, there is lots of energy that is going to be released in the crash. |

Speeding and driving fast (for conditions) are only two of the reasons for loss of control and resultant crash. The real cause of why the vehicle got to that point where the slightest change in traction or direction can result in disaster is the driver. The vehicle didn't get to that velocity by itself. A foot had to press the gas pedal and a brain had to tell the foot to do it. Since there are so many things in and outside of the vehicle that the driver has no control over, exceeding the limits of safe operation of a vehicle is like playing Russian roulette with one empty chamber. The waste of fuel and abuse of the vehicle is not even worth mentioning. |

they have to have a general rule because some (most?) people are idiots. a fair percentage of people could drive above the speed limit (which doesn't necessarily imply recklessness) and still be safer drivers than some of the shocking drivers i see on a regular basis. i would say only about 1% of the population can actually drive a car properly. by that i mean could respond to any situation in the correct manner. anyone can get from A to B if nothing goes wrong. speed obviously increases the stopping distance but a good driver wouldn't let something come up on them blind anyway. |

At the best you will get a ticket for speeding. At the worst you will be involved in an accident where an innocent motorist is killed, maybe along with yourself. |

Along with the above, but also have something else to add.
Speed limits are designed *also* with the wear of the car in mind, you are less likely to damage your car (suspension-wise) if you are going within 5 miles of the speed limit, either way. You get better gas mileage if you go within the speed limit. Sometimes it is taken into account (on a well planned road) the expected stops, how many turn offs and the frequency in which the turn offs are used, whether it is business or residential area, blind spots, sometimes considered in is the pedestrian traffic, etc. They don't make speed limits to have a reason to give you tickets or limit your driving experience(most of the time;D).
Also, you will save a lot of money in speeding tickets, and insurance rates if you just go the limit. Leave early if you need to be somewhere at a certain time, or call ahead if you are running late. If you wanna drive fast there are tracks that are open to the public, go there if you need to get your speed on.
My Plea: Don't be an idiot, please go the speed limit. People in small cars appreciate it. I was hit in an escort (at a dead stop) by a lifted Silvarado, going 50, in a 35, pushed me into oncoming traffic (miraculously, I was not hit from the front) , nearly getting me and my unborn child killed. Thank God my other 3 kids weren't with me, in the back seat, they would have been killed or seriously injured. Message me if you really need to see the pictures of the accident, there are plenty of them to show how bad an accident can be, in an area with NO blind spots. Just because of stupid drivers. YouTube accidents and there are plenty of bad accident pics floating around.
P.S. I hope this was just one of those questions to see how many answers you can come up with, for a paper or something... |

Speed doesn't kill. Moronic lack of thought, kills. Inattention, kills. Just plain disregard of your fellow human being, kills. But speed doesn't. |
