Why is there braille lettering on a drive-thru ATM machine??

Americans with disabilities act requires it on all machines, regardless of location. |

?

Sometimes people walk up to them--I do once in a while. There's also a headphone jack so the person can hear the instructions. |

Why do people keep asking this question without first searching the archive?
The answer is simple: The Americans With Disabilities Act, signed into law by President George H.W. Bush in 1990, requires braille. There is no exemption for drive-up ATMs. |

I've often wondered the same thing. I would imagine it's the law. Hopefully, someone is driving the person who is blind. |

So that blind drivers can work the machine. What I can't figure out is in order to work the machine you have to follow the instructions on the screen. How do blind drivers see the screen to know which button to push and when to push it?? |

so,when someone drives them up to it,they can get their own money out.even if they are blind, they dont want to feel useless. |

So that they, and not the person who is reading them the screen, can key in their pin number. |

For one every ATM has to have braille where it is, is irrelevant plus it costs less for the bank that owns the ATM if they just buy a bunch of braille keys and put them in all their machines instead of ordering some buttons that have braille and some that have no braille and putting those in the drive through ATMs. |

so blind people can "see" what they are doing |

Because the blind person may be in the back seat, using the ATM from there.
After all, he's blind. He's obviously not driving. That's why they have seeing-eye dogs! |
