He should be jailed for a few months and banned from holding a license for life.
Speeding is usually totally unnecessary (except maybe in a serious emergency), but if somebody is going maybe 5 or 10mph over the speed limit they could reasonably be considered to at least be in control, and the law as it stands now seems fair. A fine and a few points would be a suitable punishment.
Somebody driving at 172mph, even on a quiet road, is seriously and recklessly endangering the lives of themselves and others, and they should be punished accordingly. |

You mean like the off duty copper that was doing 150mph? and got away with it? I know which one SHOULD have been made an example of! |
|

that_guy
|
I trust him more than I do someone going 50 while smacking their kids or talking on a cellphone. At least he was probably paying attention to the road in front. |

If there in a hurry they should leave sooner.
No need in taking a chance and might hurt someone else also if they wreck. |

He must have lost the plot. I hate it when driving at national limit being overtaken by ROAD HOGS. nur nur nu nur nur my cars faster than yours. see you up the road ahead where you have caused a tragic accident . You can be the safest driver going but can be harmed by such ipohs (insignificant pieces of humanity) Have a nice day or night! xxx |

idiot. i just hope it was at least on an audobon or something and that he had a good reason. he could have killed someone! theres no way it would be worth killing someone than getting to wherever he was going. |

Yes it was a act of stupidity, the guy could have crashed into innocent people or even worse killed himself as well as others. What is sad in this case, the guy is getting the notoriety for something so careless as to endanger others. |

Sorry ,Python , if I'm repeating others. There are so many others replying to a good question, that I havent read them all..He was a twa@ (havent heard the word 'pillock' for years - brilliant. If this becomes a 'record' to beat , someone will get killed.Lock him up for a long time.(It won't happen as our judiciary bow to 'political correctness'.).He will get a wrist slap, but he's still a twa@'!! Good man Python. |

What a guy!!

Driving at that speed should receive a lifetime ban from driving, as should drinking and driving. |

If they don't ban drunk drivers for life then what can they do but fine and ban him for short period. Have seen drunk drivers in local court virtually get away with DUI as it would effect their business. Run a business and most courts will virtually turn nearly a blind eye. Be a common working stiff and watch out your for the high jump. |

Banned for life, I say, he is obviously a huge risk to other motorists. In an accident caused by him, he'd probably get away with scrapes and bruises whilst the innocent party was killed. Shouldn't be allowed on the road. |

too right. He should be given a massive fine and BANNED FOR LIFE form ever driving again. Brain dead pillock |

Well, if he was stupid enough to think he didn't run the risk of getting caught he deserves everything he gets. I read a while back of some guy on a brand new Fireblade clocked at, I think, 154mph. It took a helicopter, a fixed-wing aircraft and two counties to stop him, but they did in the end.
However, deep down I tend to agree with that_guy. At least he had a car capable of it and, presumably, was paying very close attention. |

I guess he likes getting a rush. The foolish part is getting caught. |

It's a pity he didn't crash |

vehicles available for public on road use should all be built to go 70mph max...thats the answer in my mind...then this just wont happen. |

listen.... this guy was just unlucky to get caught, everyone speeds to an extent, i was clocked doing 187mph on my motorbike by one of my friends with a speed gun, guess what his job is........a traffic policeman- who wanted to see how fast my bike would go just out of interest.
yes there are tracks for this kind of thing so just you remember that when your doing 31 in a 30 and the cops pull you........and throw the book at you |
