Disturbing the peace
Makes it hard to hear horns and sirens |

Semi-charmed

Because you cannot hear what is going on around you....like a car coming towards you, an ambulance needing to get by, etc. Plus, its just plain considerate to keep your musical tastes to yourself instead of sharing it with everyone driving around you. |

Well, driving takes consentration and use of your senses. You need to hear if an ambulance, police, train, etc. is coming up. Also you need to hear when a person honks because they might be crashing into you and you won't be able to hear to get out of the way. |

over 90 decibels can damage your hearing and cause you not to hear sirens and the such |

'cause there are other people around. They might not like your music choices. |

those that really matter to you!

because that disturbers a silent area like at night it would wake everybody in the area.aslo is could damage your hearing |

Well, not only is annoying to people outside the car. (Not everyone wants to listen to loud thumping music with profanity and racial epithets), but the driver may be unable to hear other cars honking, ambulance or police sirens, etc. Then it becomes an issue of the driver not being able to drive as safely as they could be if they could hear everything going on outside around them. |

Iam!!

Because at 90 decibels you are interupting Sinfield, lol. |

Because you need to be ALERT when driving a car. Drowning out your senses in music can cause an accident. |

Because I don't want to hear your music?
Because I shouldn't HAVE to hear your music?
That and you'll blow out your eardrums and the state will have to buy you a hearing aid with my tax dollars... |
|

fairly smart

Because you wouldn't be able to hear those sirens behind you with that critical patient trying to get to the hostpital...that's why... |

There's no state or federal laws that I know of that limit the volume of music in a car. There are local laws in many areas against disturbing the peace with loud music but those are volume level ratings a specified distance from the source (like 90db at 50 feet or something like that). Those laws are put in place to prevent people from having to put up with unwanted noise.
Contrary to popular belief, it has nothing to do with hearing sirens or horns. Authorities typically site this as a reason without foundation. If audibility of signals was a legal requirement, automotive manufacturers would not be allowed to manufacture cars with the level of sound insulation that modern vehicles have. You cannot hear anything outside of some luxury cars, something more than one auto company has used in ad campaigns. Another problem is that most people misuse their horns in the first place or believe that the horn is the first thing they should go for (before steering, braking, etc). |
