Why should the gov't help out the US automakers?
|
for the last 30 years they have made crap cars and THAT is why their sales are so down. Does that mean the govt should bail out all stupid companies if their business is slow? sure it may save some jobs, but if the product is terrible, and wages are too high it will just happen again. Additional Details actually the govt is the way they are BECAUSE of the automakers and oil company lobbyists. These comoanies do NOT want hybrid or more fuel efficient cars, cause they will not make as much $$$. and it is precisely that GREED why the US economy is crap. The US will be its own demise in the end unless those attitudes change. Dont get me wrong i am canadian, but i love the US like the rest of you, and with the recent election hopefully it will change.

Um....they have made crap cars, BECAUSE of the govt.
Keep in mind, it's the govt that put all the emission, safety, and fuel economy restrictions on vehicles.
Without all that, we'd still have awesome cars like we had in the 60s.
So....the govt definitely has no loyalty to car makers. |

My answer is simply this: If I am the US Government and the Big Auto companies want my help, all they have to do is do away with all the unions!! That is why we pay so much for cars and why these guys are in the trouble they are. You give a person sweeping floors $30 an hour and something has to give!! Fair wages are a must but, sorry, no unions!! |

No bailout, the unions have ruined the US automobile industry. Let the Union members lose their jobs, after all they did it to themselves with some of their ridiculous demands. |

The bailouts don't just help the auto companies. They help the people that are employed by them, as well as the hundreds of companies who supply them, as well as all of *their* employees and their families. To let them crumble would put us back at square one with home foreclosures. It's a straight path to an economic depression. I think the bailout is necessary, but the unions should go. |

IMHO American cars havn't been crap since the early 90's. Unfortunatly they can't shake the bad image.
But you are right about wages. The thing that bothers me a lot, every time I think about it, is that taxpayers will now be footing the bill for the overpaid UAW workers artificially high wage. It makes me sick. |

This go against the principles of a free market and if an automaker or company refuses to remain competitive they should have to suffer the consequences on their own.. |

Can I get share of that money? I am in trouble too.
You are right guys, union demands too much, but on other hand, I know people are powerlss to speak up. They just pay enough to eat. The day they lost their job they better jump in the river.
We need the balance between employer and employee. |

i have to tell you as a michigan resident, with the auto industry down our entire economy is going down with it. the merger between chrysler and GM could cost us thousands more jobs. i'm usually not in favor of a government bail out but michigan is in desperate need for some help!
you have to understand, the auto industry is michigan's biggest industry, this isn't like bailing out "stupid companies" this is more about saving an entire state's economy. |

Their sales are down because the foreign make cheaper piles of crap. There should be an enormous protective tariff that would prevent the foreign companies from having profits, and people will buy the cheaper US cars. That would be better than another mindless bailout. |

The problems we are having in the states are the same problems they are having all over the world, not just here. The auto makers are a lot of cicizens that will lose their jobs if something isn't done. It is one of the biggest industries in the USA, so it stands to reason that our government is going to step in and help prop it up. Don't ya think? If ya noticed, all the other countries are doing the same thing. |

They employ a lot of people and their suppliers employ a lot of people. The unemployment rate would go really high which is very bad for the already weak economy. |

So that thousands don't lose their jobs and because they helped out the banks so why not everyone else that can't run their companies correctly. |

We should not bail them out. They should go bankrupt. Break up the Unions. Re establish GM with only Chevy and Cadillac. Eliminate the other brands.
Boy two thumbs down? Are you Pro union or will miss having Buick and Pontiac around? |
