They did a test on tv about a month ago, and got 4 people really drunk on whiskey, and gave 4 people cell phones. put them through a test on a straight road, and they had to drive, either talking on the cell phone, or drunk, It was on the History channel. The sober youngsters scored worse than the older drunk guys. That's just talking on their cell phones, texting takes more attention away from what you are doing on the road. Damned, kids need to realise they are putting us all at risk when they text while driving. It's worse than drunk driving.

Wow. So everyone who is saying she is stupid you guys are being retarded. It may be illegal in your STATE but there is no federal law regulating this. Therefore she is probably in one of the 25+ states that don't ban cell phone use in any way.

Also, everyone speeds. Theres a law against speeding. A lot of people underage drink and smoke marijuana. Theres laws against these too. (Though there shouldn't be...)

Also, a lot of state legislatures are trying to criminalize this because it is really dangerous. Studies have found it decreases reaction time by 400%. It's extremely distracting because it is not possible to text accurately while keeping your eyes on the road.

The reason people do it is the same reason people drink and drive, do 110mph on highways, weave all around traffic, and drive like maniacs. People in cars think they are invincible, because you don't realize what 60mph or 30 mph really is. People feel like driving is just what evs and chillax when they do it, when in actuality its probably the most dangerous thing most people do in their entire lives. Hell I speed and I know if someone infront of me had to slam on their brakes I would get seriously injured, but I gotz to get places. These people has gotz to talk to ppl now. It's stupid but its just we live in a society where the individual thinks hes better than society.

Driving whilst on a mobile (talking or texting) is considered more dangerous in some ways than drink driving. You are least 4x more likely to crash when on a phone.
I know someone who got the penalty for just 'holding a phone in his hand' whilst at the wheel, he wasn't texting or on the phone to anyone and it can be dangerous, I admit I've tried it myself once and god I **** myself if I do cos I know how much more dangerous it can be so I never intend to do it again.
And ye u hear of more and more accidents by people on their phones now, ppl think its just dirnk driving and speeding that are the dangers, well its not, paying attention is a major part of good driving, over 40% of all road accidents and deaths are caused by it and everything that goes within that category area (talk/texting on mobile, driving whilst tired, little concentration on the road ahead, reading, and so on)
so my advice is to strongly persuade your sister to stop it now really else she could one day soon be one of them statistics

I think its ridiculous. If I ever want to respond to a text I pull over. I mean its not that hard to find a parking lot to text in. When I have kids I'm going to disable their text messaging so they cannot text and drive.

Texting was not the sole source of distraction.

More than 40 percent of drivers said they had talked on their mobile without using a hands-free kit.

In addition to phone use, two thirds said they ate while driving, more than half said they had lost concentration while adjusting the stereo and just under half had been distracted by staring at billboards or other advertising.

I don't know if you missed this but they just passed the law that you can't text and drive anymore. They passed this on 4/20
