Why would my front wheel drive car skid on wet surfaces when accelatoring and braking.?

It would seem that my brakes lock up. Also it seems the longer I drive the car at one time the worse it gets.

In regards to acceleration, a front wheel drive will spin its tires because the weight of the vehicle is transferring to the rear, therefore there is not as much weight on the tires so they slip. As for braking, I wouuld check the following:

Tires - are they worn
Brakes - bring your car to a mechanic to see if there is something faulty in the braking system.
Suspension - Worn shocks and springs can greatly increase your braking distance and cause lock-up. However, the lock-up would occur in the rear wheels and the front.

It's likely your tires as it happens during accl. and braking.

I suspect it may be your tires. Are they bald, or almost bald? That would do it.

what you are saying is very normal, i'm not really sure what you are asking, but i need to get some points on this thing

FORDever
You must have a light car,and when you floor the gas pedal, yes it will give you wheel spin(no traction) Your tires must be bald or over inflated.

I really think that you need to get your brakes checked ASAP.

Baled tires and bad shocks/struts will cos lost of traction and braking.

Spurs
The friction between your tires and the road is very low especially on wet surfaces. I think your tires is worn out.

Basically when the wheel has no friction with the road, then the car skid. Usually ice, snow, water, oil will reduce the friction. Or you tire pressure in not enough.

has to be yur tyres. They may not be suitable for wet surfaces or they may be getting bald. get them checked.
Some tyres are not real good in the wet.
