Find answers to your legal question.

Why would someone need a seatbelt sitting in the back seat of a car?

i really cant see myself flying over the seat lol
cuz for one i cant fit over the seat
for two being in a accident with a seatbelt would hurt like hell
i can understand kids wearing one but not other people
good thing in illinois its legal for people 16+ to not wear one but still...some states its illegal
why? whats the point lol they should have a weight limit

Because seat belts save lives no matter where you're sitting.

I knew someone who thought the same thing, until he was in the backseat of a car, got in an accident and flew out of the windshield and died. It is just a smart idea even if it is a 1 in billion chance that something may happen to you

If you are in a head on collision you just might go straight up, breaking your neck on the roof of the car. Also, a lot of people get killed by being thrown from the car and being rolled over on.

because you would be secure if the car rolls, head on impact. if the cars rolls, you'll be rolling with the car when your strapped then being bounced around inside the car. so by this means, you're reducing the chance of being critically injured.

If your car rolls over (it happens more often than you think, I drive a tow truck and see it a lot) then you'll get thrown all over the car. If the window is open or breaks then you can be thrown from the car and have it roll on top of your head (i've seen it happen). The front seats also tend to fold either forward of backward in a crash, allowing enough room for somebody to fly out the front.

Also, if you're hit in the side you'll be thrown to the other side of the car and it's gonna be your face going through a window that's gonna slow you down if you don't have a seat belt to do it.

If you get a chance, go to a junkyard where you can buy used parts and take a look at the smashed up cars, you'll understand how a seat belt can help.

It is simple - wearing a seatbelt is safer not only for you, but also all the other people in the car.

During a collision, any unsecured mass inside the car (i.e. YOU) becomes an unguided ballistic object - in other words, you will smash into the back of the seat in front of you at the speed at which the car was previously travelling.

If you are doing 35 miles an hour, this may not kill you, but it will most cetainly kill the person in front of you.

If you are doing 50 miles an hour, you will both be dead.

If you are going 65-70 on a freeway, there will be pieces of you hammered into the seat/dash/mincemeat that was in front of you, and is now all around you.

DO YOU REALLY THINK THE SEATBACKS WILL STOP YOU? You will fly forward, break the seat in front of you and smash that person into the wheel or dash, killing them and maybe yourself. If you don't do it for yourself, do it for the person riding in front of you.

Because it saves your life plain and simple. I thought ILL. was like the other states and if it was there it has to be worn. Another thing cuz is not a word it is spelled because when I is use to mean your self it is a capital letter. The first letter of the first word in a sentence is to be capitalized.

I would bet you a million dollars if you were in the back seat of the vehicle with no seat belt and the vehicle was going 30 MPH and had a head on collision with another vehicle going 30 MPH, that you would fly over and accross the front seat and either:
a) put you head through the windshield, or
b) hit your head on the back head of either driver or other front seat passenger and kill them.

You may be obese, but the force of those two vehicles hitting would easily squeeze you up front. No super strength from anyone would be able to hold them back. Just because you can't fit over the front seat when it's stopped does not mean you won't get over in an accident.
Also, doors open on some collisions and roll overs. You could fall out and be killed.

Here's your first physics lessen: A body in motion tends to stay in motion, including you! If your moving at 50 mph and the car hits something head on, your going from 50 mph to a "dead" stop almost instantly. You ARE going to fly forward, over, under or through what ever is in front of you. If your just a measly 120 lbs your moving forward with more than 2000 f/p of force. Even at 10 mph, you could hit the windshield hard enough to crack your skull.
Would you rather be a little sore or dead?

If 90 percent of Americans that road in the back seats buckled up, we will prevent more than 5,500 deaths and 132,000 injuries annually.

My husband and daughter were involved in a horrific car accident. My husband was sitting in the front passenger seat and did not have his seat belt on; he was killed instantly. My daughter Tammy, who was 26 at the time was airlifted to hospital and was in a coma for 11 days. She had to go to a rehabilitation centre for 1 1/2 months! During this time she was very confused and disorientated. It took 9 1/2 months before she could go back to work. She had bruising on the brain, broke her hand and arm as well as her hip. She had a cut above her eye and below her lip and her nose was broken. I would just llike to plead with everyone just how important a seat belt is. The driver of the car had his seat belt on and spent one night in hospital. His seat belt saved his life.
