Will a car pass a safety test in Ontario if?

Just bought a used car today and needs a few things before we can safety it. We need new tires and front brakes (lucky for us we will be doing the brakes ourselves and our old car has the same size tires as our new car)
Twp of my main concerns is that it does need a new engine diagnostic sensor and a new oxygen sensor which has put a quote of close to $1000 (I will be shopping around for cheaper for sure!) but do you think that this would effect the safety?
It already has a emission test certificate which is still good
Just wondering what exactly also what do they look for for a safety (usually we buy cars from a dealership that already come safetied so this is our first time buying a privately owned car)

If there is a check engine light on or a warning light for emissions related things i dont think they will pass it.. they ckeck spare tire, wipers, seatbelts, seats, fuel tank and cap, cracks in glass, proper tire pressure, brakes, parking brake, headlights/brakelights/sidemarkers/turn signals/4-ways, horn.
