I am going to buy my first car and it looks like I will be getting a 2000 civic ex. If I pony up to get a cf hood, will it save me if i get in a head on collision?

IT WILL BE CHEAPER JUST TO BUY THE ORIGINAL HOOD BUT YOU PROBABLY WANT IT FOR LOOKS.
IT IS USED ONLY RACING AND IS VERY LIGHTWEIGHT SO NO IT WONT SAVE YOUR LIFE BUT YES TELL YOUR PARENTS THAT IT WILL. |

Of course not, if want to survive a crash of any type then do what the race car drivers do plus SRS.
The cf hood only advantage is it's weight compared to it's strength.
Safety in cars is largely determined by size of the vehicle.

No - it is not.
However the hood has nothing to do with any vehicle safety
There are crumple zones in every car designed to keep the occupants of the cabin safe during a crash.
The hood fenders dors and 1/4 panels are all just body panels, the actual structure (body) of the car is what makes it safe. |

I highly doubt that. That sounds like an urban myth to me. What about being in a side-on collision? or a semi hits your car from behind at speed? Your carbon fiber hood will be of no use to your health or that of your wallet since its only a cosmetic item. Why not take the $ you planned on spending for a cf hood and install a racing harness, or better yet, a roll cage? |

Uh, if plastic glass and fibers are safer than metal, I guess so...
The CF hood is designed to look cool and save weight, if you plan on racing it. As far as a safety device...youre fooling yourself. |

no a medal hood is more likely to protect your engine than carbon fiber hood, carbon fiber hoods are to make the car lighter and to make it look nicer, because it so light it could break essay. |
