Will the airbag come out when I'm not wearing th safety belt?
Find answers to your legal question.

Will the airbag come out when I'm not wearing th safety belt?

my brother had a car accident last week(the car capsized), the airbag didn't protect him; it didn't come out, people say because he wasn't wearing the safety belt but I think that it has nothing to do with not wearing the safety belt.... I guess it's because we didn't update the airbag thingy you know you have to do something every year or something like updating(renew)your car, thank god my brother isn't deeply injured but I don't want that to repeat, so please say whatever you know about the airbag

Thanks!~

Friendly Stranger..
The airbag should deploy whether you are wearing your seat belt or not. It was probably a defective function in that particular car your brother was in. The purpose of the air bag is to deploy upon impact. The safety belt has the puropse of restraining the driver and passenger in the event of a collision. But the air bag does not deploy based on the belt. Injuries are worsened when you don't wear your seat belt. Also at high speeds if you aren't wearing a seat belt and the air bag comes out then in some cases it is known to do more damage and it has been known to kill drivers upon impact. So yes the air bag should always deploy because it is dependent upon the speed and impact of the collision not if you are wearing your seat belt.

You are right, the airbag deployment system is fully independent of the seatbelt. The airbags will only deploy if the sensors in the front of the car (also in the sides of newer cars) feel a extremely quick reduction in speed, such as hitting another vehicle or building.

chucksright
yes

it should deploy, if your wearing the seatbelt or not

unless your car has been in a accident before updating the airbag is not necessary.

air bags are made to go off as soon as you car is hit you do not need to have your seat belt on. But I belive your car has to be hit where the air bag is placed to activate it. My car has frount air bags and I was hit on the drivers side, I did have a seat belt on but the air bag did not go off. Had I been hit on the frount of the car it would have went off.

Yes thank god!!

I really don't know if the safety belt is the cause of this...but i think your bro should wear it from now on!......you know the roads arigato....everyone NEEDS to wear the belt!

good luck.

it should always come out if the accident called for it.. and it could kill you if youre not wearing a seatbelt.

ALWAYS wear your seatbelt. its just common sense.

not wearing your seatbelt is just as stupid as climbing a mountain with no safety equipment.

the airbag had a malfunction, maybe even a recall that was never serviced by a dealer.

belts not needed to have bag deploy...but seat belts are needed...unless you hit straight on you can still hit dash or glass.. every day i see news reports that end with" and he was killed after being thrown from the vehicle"

It depends on the vehicle, and the severity of the crash. In some cars the airbag is linked to the seatbelt as well as occupant sensors, and uses information such as vehicle speed, angle of impact, g forces and other information to deploy certain airbags or not. The newer the vehicle the more advanced this system is. Older cars this may not be the case. The vehicles manufacturer may be of better assistance.

There is no connection between the safety belt and air bag. It probably didn't deploy because that accident didn't trigger the activation button. It seems that you have to bump something for it to work. A rollover may not be enough.

Yes the air bag should still deploy. The whole "need to wear a seatbelt for the airbag to work" theory is ridiculous. That makes no sense, so car manufacturers only provide the extra safety of the airbag to people who wear seat belts? no, it should have deployed.

Yes it will and you should do the following..

First, preserve the vehicle. Do not have it repaired or let it be sold until it is inspected by an expert.

Second, take photographs, not only of the vehicle, but also of the injury.

Third, consult with an attorney. A competent attorney is capable of representing your interests and defeating false claims often used by auto manufacturers.
