yes it will just dont make it a habit. The only reason that they say turn off your car is to prevent a explosion, your good. |

Yes, a lot of people do this when it is cold so that their loved ones can stay warm or so their car will keep running. I don't blame you for being paranoid, I'm the same way about other things, but in this case it's no big deal. It would be worse if he turned it off, but had a pickup and pumped gas into a can in the back of the pickup without taking it out and setting it on the ground. Static electricity can spark a fire that way. I saw a video of this recently. |

the reason that you are supposed to turn your car off is a safety issue. It is so nothing catches fire or causes the gas fumes to ignite. Did you know you can weld a gas tank if it is full of gas because it is the fumes that are explosive not the liquid gas? |

i own a repair shop, and leaving one run while pumping gas in it wont mess it up,has someone told you that it would?,,because in cold weather i do it all the time and i haven't messed one of mine up yet,but as far as doing any damage to it,there's no way it can hurt it,you have been told wrong on this one,it cant hurt anything at all good luck i hope this help,s. |

It is best to turn it off when fueling. things can happen in the right enviornment to cause a flame up.
If he continues to fill up while it is running, remove yourself and the kids from the car until he is finished.
This way if something happens he will be the only one in danger |

i was getting gas the other day & some guy in a truck left his running while fueling.i didnt like it all!

If the car didn't explode......its ok........ |
|

Iam!!

The only reason they say to turn your car of while fueling, is in case there is a spark, which could case a flash fire or explosion. It won't hurt the car to leave running while fueling, unless one of the thing I mentioned happens. |

Your car will be perfectly fine. My friend has done it so many times I can't count that high. They only tell you to turn it off for safety reasons. What are you trying to do? Make the gas station explode? LOL. |

Not only should you turn the car off, because of sparks, and also cell phone's because of the magnetic Field, that the phone give off, Like the previous view said take your kid, and yourself from the car, until finish. (Its against the law anyway to let it run. |

Yes, but your not supposed to because sparks from the running engine may igniting fuel vapors. I have refueled vehicles while smoking and that was ok |

This is definatly a bad habit and I've done it myself. It is wrong for most of the reason's stated so far,but I am surprised noone mentioned the vehicle's emission's system. If this is a newer vehicle than it has a return line fuel system with an emission/vapor canister.New vehicle's are required by law to monitor emission's and throw a check engine light(code) when everything is not reading correctly.Return line fuel system's cut down on gasoline emission's,which is why the EPA mandated they be monitored by On-board diagnostics. There are pressure sensor's that read the pressure in the tank compared to what has been purged in the closed system. If you leave your gas cap off while you are fueling and the system runs it's regular diagnostic cycle then it will read a low pressure situation causing an emission's code(check engine light). While it's no big deal whatsoever and will not harm your engine....You will have to pay the dealer to erase the code from your computer to turn your check engine light off.
So if nothing else, tell him he will have to pay a mechanic if it throw's the code.
Oh yeah, and he could blow everyone up!! |
