Would you give your seat up to a pregnant woman while on a bus or train?
|
I'm just wondering if there is any common courtesy left these days.
This morning I got on the train and it was very crowded, there was no seats and there were many people standing. And its hard to even find a pole or something to hold onto when its that crowded which makes it really hard to keep my balance.. Men, high school aged boys, everybody will look at me up and down and its totally obvious that i am pregnant (im very skinny with a HUGE stomach).. but never have I had anyone offer me a seat. Even when a seat became open today a man who was standing directly in front of me, facing me, took the seat for himself.
And not to mention the other day I slipped on the train since the floor was wet because it had rained outside and two boys laughed.
am i wrong for feeling that people are just plain rude Additional Details in center city philadelphia

I'm just wondering if there is any common courtesy left these days. - I'm with you totally!
Unfortunately, some people are rude! I wonder how many considerate people are left - maybe only a select few!
Rude doesn't cover it concerning giving up your seat for a pregnant women.
I'm a Mom with 2 teens -daughter 16 & son 13. I can remember a lot of times people stepped up to the plate and helped me!
In turn, I will go out of my way to help a pregnant women!
Don't lose HOPE - considerate people like me are around in this world! |

I don't ride a train and never seen this type of situation you were in (only in the movies). But if I had a seat and saw a women who was clearly pregnant, I would offer my seat to her because that's the right thing to do. It seems like common courtesy might be a thing from the past. This is a different generation and things change. |

you are not wrong for thinking that people are rude. rare is the person who will smile and empathize. i'm sorry for your discomfort and am angry and sad for you. as a society today we have become so calloused that it is becoming more difficult to peel back those hard callouses. many parents today do not feel a respondsibility in the raising of children with morals and values. today's parents struggle so hard just to get food on the table and keep a roof over their heads that they forget that what makes a human being is not the food or the roof but the everyday lessons taught. |

I can't believe that this could happen. Yeah, people a lot of times can be very rude but they can also many times be very nice. I'm really shocked that you've had this terrible experience and I'm sure it's not typical. Where do you live? It must be somewhere inner city where people are always in a rush. Anyway, I use to think the same way, but lately with my new job that deals with people on a daily basis, I've come to realize that most people don't act nicely with strangers, on the other hand when the person puts on a friendly warm smile to a stranger, the stranger will diffidently respond positively. |

I always give up my seat to a lady. Especially a pregnant lady.
I can't imagine nobody helping you up when you slipped. I mean...that is low.
Sometimes people refuse to sit down though. People are strange. |

I'm sorry you have had to deal with such rudeness and inconsideration. All of those men should be ashamed of themselves for being so thoughtless. But unfortunately, some people are just clueless, and don't think of anyone but themselves.
I hope you have a better experience next time. |

You are 100% right about feeling that people are rude. I am a male, and I believe in the old fashioned way that women deserve to be treated with respect, and dignity. What has happened in our generation is that many males, have become callous and they seem not to care about women and their well being. In the process, women start to be come distrusting of males in general. It is a rare sight now a days, to see a man stepping up to his responsibility as it relates to being gentlemen. Not only is it wrong for men not to treat women with respect, but as you are aware, it isn't a good idea to be pregnant and standing up for long periods of time. If you are pregnant you need to relieve that strain on your back and stomach and be relaxed by sitting down. So in my eyes, those men that did not give up their seats, or the guy that took the seat, they aren't true gentlemen. This is the world we live in, but you have every right to be upset or disappointed. It just goes to show how this generation has become so cold, and how their parents are not teaching their children the right way to live life and treat others. |
