This lady that comes and picks up her kids from the babysitter in our neighborhood. She takes turn with one of her kid everyday to sit on her lap behind the wheel and drive the car. This has been going on for a month or so. (Everyday) She came really close to smacking my car the other day because she had her child driving the car. What should I do report it or talk to the mother? What is your opinion about this issue.? Thank you.

I have to agree, 100% with "UCANTSEEME" on this one. Chances are this mother knows the law, but she, just does not care.
Every day and every time she does this, she endangers the life of the child and anyone elso on the roads with her. Talking to her will probably only result in her getting angry at your for "butting in" on her business, no matter how good your intention.
I'd advise calling up the police department non emergency number and express your concers. Hopefully, you will get a sympathetic response and an officer can be dispatched to the sitter's house to wait and try to catch her when she next does this. If the cops don't seem inclined to do anything about it, I would next consider calling your local Child Protection Service, or equivilant.
There are some things you can, just, roll your eyes about, or shake you head. But, endangering a child's life is not one of these. |

Neither. My opinion, this situation is too serious for the police.
Parents & drivers generally don't take too kindly to advice from people we don't know, and since you referred to here as "this lady" and not "a friend of mine", sounds like you don't know her very well.
Call Child Protective Services, (or whatever agency in your state/province has jurisdiction).
A visit from CPS is every parents' nightmare -- way more likely to have an effect than a traffic stop. |

i think that you should report it to the police anonymously, not only is she putting her life and her childrens life in real real high danger, she is also putting everyone else on the road in danger, it is your duty to report it, just take her number plate and phone the police anonymously if you dont want to give your name, that will be ok. and they will sort it out. dont feel guilty about reporting them. imagine how guilty you will fel if she crashes that car tomorrow and kills herself her children, and the bus of children she has crashed into... |

Tell the lady that although shes tryin to let her kids have fun she needs to stop or ull call the police. give her a chance to fix the problem. if she doesnt make the police fix the problem. |

Report it to the police. There is a large difference between letting your child sit on your lap and steer down a deserted road than letting them drive home from somewhere on actual streets. I'm surprised police have not stopped her before. |

I would report it to the police.
If you say to he directly you will probably not get anywhere as anyone can see how dangerous this is and if she is doing it she must not see anything wrong with it.
I doubt that if you say anything to her she will suddenly stop doing it. Then if the police get a complaint about it, then she will assume you informed on her (even if it was someone else). This will only cause bad feeling and resentment on her part.
I would advise the police because a warning from a police officer always carries more weight than from a neighbour and I have dealt with more than my fair share of irrational people. If she sees nothing wrong with it, she will keep doing it no matter what anyone says. Inform the police and let them sort it out. |

i think the mom has good intentions, but this is very dangerous for her, other drivers, and her children. i would tell your mom about it and ask if she could speak to the lady about it. if this approach doesn't work, talk to a police officer. |

You want to give people the benefit of the doubt and give them a chance, but depending on how well you know this person (if at all), should tell you how to handle this. Is she a casual acquaintance with good character, or a person with a short temper?
You know what? Screw it... if something happens, she'll probably give you the run around and you'll have to chase her with a lawyer... just report her, better safe than sorry. |
