Would you resit your driving test?

It's remarkable to think that you can criticise a person's house, you can criticise their hair, you can criticise their wife or husband, you can criticise their job, you can criticise their clothes - but you must never, ever, ever criticise their driving!

Have you noticed it's always everyone else who's a bad or dangerous driver? Have you noticed that no-one ever wins a road rage argument? People would rather be beaten up than admit they were wrong on the road!

It's because of this that so many people will object to re-tests. Everyone is convinced that, though they may not be perfect, their driving is ok, it's everyone else that causes the problems.

Over 98% of accidents are caused by driver error or negligence. Yes, people should be checked every 5-10 years and 'advised' on how they may improve their chances of avoiding accidents.

What's the point, the people will just drive extra safe for the test and once they are done they will go back to the crazy ways they drive everyday. Its just gonna be a waste of everyone's time. I would suggest proper training and testing before you get your license, so that the driver learns all the good habits, and not 10 years later, when the driver picks up all the bad ones. I am not objecting to the test because I think my driving is better than everyone else's, i am just saying that the test will not prove anything.

Here is an example. I am not perfect, sometimes i speed, sometimes i don't come to a full stop at a stop sign, sometimes i cut people off, not on purpose though. Over the last 5 years, i took 3 different road tests for 3 classes of license. And passed them all. All you do is just drive safely for the test, that is all it takes to pass it. And then you go back to driving like a madman. The test will not prove anything, just waste people's time and money.

I don't see the point. The driving test just shows that you have reasonable control of a car. It doesn't show competence at driving. Nobody with any sense is going to speed, tailgate, fail to stop at signals or commit any of the errors that cause accidents on a retest.
There may be a case for drivers at say 70 when their reactions and other faculties may be impaired.

Instead of retesting and spending all that money....Just set up a toll free number that a motorist can call to report incompetent drivers. After say 10 complaints, they loose their license for 3 months, 10 more for 6 months and levy a fine with that. And have points on their license too that stay on for 3 years, like speeding tickets.

What we need is something that will motivate people to drive better. I think I have a plan. When drivers pass the test for their license, they are issued a small, single shot, 22 pistol. They are allowed only one shot in their lifetime. If Herman the idiot has been blocking the highway for 10 miles because he's to lazy or stupid to pull over, when you finally can pull around and pass, you're allowed one shot at him. If you kill him, no problem, he was an idiot anyway. If you are aware that stupid driving may get you shot, you're probably gonna pay more attention to your driving. Seems like this might solve our highway problems. We will call this the Smith and Wesson Motivation System.
