Your best safety tip for when driving a car?

If you're not sure something is safe assume it isn't and don't do it.

As an example if you're looking at overtaking someone and aren't sure of whether it's safe then you should just wait and overtake them later when you can be sure there's no oncoming traffic (when you're driving you must be willing to wait, even if you hate waiting and who doesn't?).

Whilst there are a lot of other things to say like not talking on a phone (whether held to your head or handsfree, doesn't matter), not adjusting the radio and actually looking out the window once in a while (or all the time) along with obeying the road rules those are actually just adding detail to the rule of only doing what is safe.

Oh and ignore what Country Boy says about not twisting your head, if you change lanes you MUST turn you head to look into your blind spot, just do it quickly.

1. always use seat belts

4. Drive with cool mind

5. If you are upset or under big stress, avoid driving in rush areas

6. your eyes are open obviously, but try to keep open your mind too, that is, don't be too relaxed while driving, as anything can happen and you must be prepared for any thing.

7.if you feel that some thing is wrong with your car, then atonce stop the car and check.

8. don't drive at late night if you are felling sleepy

Drive like everybody else is an idiot and they cant drive. that way you will be ready for the ones that cant.

Don't just stare at the car right in front of you look the what is going on way in front of you.
Use your mirrors all the time, check all three at least once or twice every minute to know where the cars around you are so if you need to get out of the way of something, stop etc.. you know where you can do it and if there is a car in the way etc..

If the weather is bad you must slow down.

Look for hazards all the time and be prepared to deal with them.

On the highway stay out of the left lane unless you are passing other cars, and only pass on the left.

And last and most important ALWAYS wear your seat belt, Seat belts save lives.

Don't play with the radio or talk on the phone. pay attention to what's around you, it may not be you that's the worse driver out there its the ones around you that you need to pay attention to.

In addition to what everyone else has said, if you will not only watch the car ahead of you, if you watch the head of the driver it will give you clues to what they are about to do.

If they keep looking to the left or right, they will most likely be getting ready to make a turn. And if they are going slow and looking around a lot, they have no clue where they need to turn and will most likely suddenly slow down and turn one way or the other.

Use all your senses as you drive. By that I mean turn the loud distracting radios down so you can use your ears to hear sounds around your car. You'll be surprised what you can actually hear. Tires, nearby cars, horns, your own mechanical sounds, children's voices and bicycle chain sounds.
You are responsible for everything ahead of your front doors. Constantly scan with your eyes. Do not twist your head and loose sight of your responsibility which is in front of you.
Be wary of all intersections controlled or not.
Obey speed limits.

Don't move a muscle when driving. Only move your diaphram just enough to breath enough air to stay alive. Wear a crash helmet (even in a car), and attach yourself to the seat with hooked bungie cords in every spot that the seat belt doesn't cover. Pretend like every car out there is just waiting to crash into you, and decide what your are going to if they actually come toward you. Fill the car full of peanut butter (except where you sit and your line of sight out the front window. So when you crash you will smash into peanut butter, instead of something harder.
