I don't know what type of Auto Tran that the first guy drives or drove but MINE can restart in Neutral. You can't totally shut off unless in park, but you can start in park OR neutral. I've done it, not restarting but had it in neutral because was pulled over and shut off the engine because no point to running it at the time. Anyway though yeah won't harm it to try to restart it, but if you can get off the road and stop then that's probably a better option. |

Either way depending on how close you are to the right side of the road, if you are right next to it then pull to the side and retry and if not put the vehicle in neutral and try to restart it if you cannot get to the side also remember to turn on your emergency flashers as well. |

dead motor means no power steering and soon no brakes, so I would try a restart. do not try to start a turning motor. If a stick shift it will turn till you stop if you stay in gear, so take it to neutral before attempting a restart. Auto, won't start unless in park, so you'll have to stop first. Get out of the way of moving traffic if you can. |
