The boy will be fined for driving without a licence, which also means that he is uninsured. He will certainly get 'banned', which means that he will have to wait another year before he can legally apply for a licence.
The owner of the car will be fined and probably get penalty points for allowing an unlicensed driver behind the wheel. He will also be penalised for allowing the car out uninsured.
It is a standard condition of all motor insurance policies that the driver must have a proper licence. The insurance company will lose faith in the owner and load his premium at next renewal.
If there is an accident on the journey then the owner and driver will have a civil law suit against them for all damages because the car will be uninsured. When you consider that the smallest bumps on a car can cost €thousands to sort out, it could be ruinous to them. If there's personal injury then prison could also result.
Get a taxi, it'll be cheaper and safer. |

Standard practice I thought in the old days, dad always took son to the pub to drive him home afterwards.

DON'T drive it, let him take a cab, also you might lose the chance of ever getting your licence and you will have your car towed, you will have to get your dad out of jail, the list of possibilities can go on, if you have any concerns talk to the local police. |
