pennsylvania driver's test question?

well i have been practicing my driving and parking for a while. my parallel parking is good 8/10 times. i got a few questions. 1) what are some things they ask you to do during the test? 2) what are some things i can do wrong that could fail me? 3) i read that i had to be parked no more than 12 inches from the curb. i have a hard time figuring out how much a foot is when im parking so will they fail me when i park right but a little bit over 12 inches from the curb? and 4) any tips you guys can give me before taking my test? like is there a certain day that the DMV is less busy or something that could help me? any tips would be helpful :)

I live in Alberta Canada. Driving rules are similar, and certainly, the methods of driving will be similar because its all based on public safety.
The way your brain is wired is that your hands and feet follow your eyes. When you walk, you look where you are going....ahead. When you ride a bike you look ahead and steer there.
You should look up ahead through the drivers seat of the car parked ahead of you as you pull over to the curb..(two parallel lines meet at the horizon - the point where the curb line meets the horizon ahead of you is where you look)...feel that you are straight and then take a quick look in the right side mirror to make sure you are close and straight. Usually if you can just see the curb in that mirror but not the road, then you will be close enough. If there is no car parked ahead of you to use as a visual reference, then use a fixed object straight ahead of you, well up the road........a tree, a pole, etc. Practice this without looking at the curb or in your right side mirror (except for a quick glance from time to time).
They measure from the sidewall of the tire to the curb by the way for that 12 inches you mention.
When you parallel park, remember to look back while reversing most of the time, and cover the brake too.
As far as a good appointment time, I would suggest around 9:30 a.m. because that is when everyone is already at work and when the schools are already in class with no school busses running around or parents unloading kids. The stores are just opening too.
You will automatically fail if you do anything illegal or dangerous [e.g. not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign or red light, riding over a curb, going over the stop line when the light has turned amber when making a right or left turn, not being able to complete your parallel parking successfully (usually 3 attempts allowed), speeding, obstructing traffic(slowing down on a lane change when vehicles are behind you), not yielding, not giving right of way to a pedestrian or other vehicle]. If you have any questions, ask them before you begin your test. Write them down if necessary so you won't forget. I hope that helps you.

Well the area I'm from in PA they have a line which would let you be sure that you are less then 12 inches from the curb. IF you aren't in the box then you will have to try again, keeping in mind you can reverse up to 3 times. When I took the test it was just a drive around a neighborhood, and didn't ask you to do anything special really. Just follow basic directions in turning. As to failing, well mess up on the parallel parking and you won't leave the test center where I'm at. Beyond that it is usually more about the points, do too many minor things wrong and you fail. DON'T speed, I know everyone goes 5 or more over, BUT that isn't the speed limit and they do watch that on the test. The limit is the FASTEST you can go, so go a little under or the limit. They won't fail you just for going over, but it will be marked down and can set you in to that failure so don't risk it.
