A girl I work with doesnt want her 5 month old can she give him up to someone specific? If so whats the proces?

She was married and has 3 kids with her ex husband. She had an affair and this baby is the product of the affair. He does not care for the baby. Instead of blaming herself for making bad choices and choosing to have an affair and ruining the relationship with her husband, she blames the baby. The divorce is her baby's fault..ect. I think she needs help but refuses it and in the meantime this baby suffers. She does not abuse or neglect the baby, but doesnt want or love it either. How should I bring up the topic of giving him up for adoption with her?

Tell her how you feel. Yes she can choose someone to adopt her child. There are many families who would jump at the chance to adopt a 5 month old.

As the other answerer's have posted, yes she can but don't forget this child has a father and he has a say in what happens....

Are you sure she doesn't have Post Natal Depression? A friend of mine had this and didn't want her baby either and ignored him completely. Once she was diagnosed and received the help she needed she became a very loving and nurturing mum; she just really needed someone to get her the help she needed.

When something goes wrong in situations like this, always try to find out what is wrong first. PND is a very REAL issue and affects more women than people realise. Many mothers who have killed their children/infants have been found to have severe PND that was not diagnosed in time. Its not about just feeling blue; it has something to do with the hormones settling down after you give birth etc.

Please ask this girl to get some help before she looks into permanently removing herself from her child's life. It may not be anything to do with her child but her situation and that is something that can be fixed with a bit of effort.

She needs to see a counselor and a physician. I don't know any mother who does not want a child unless she's got a personality disorder (like antisocial personality disorder) which prevents her from bonding with anyone, even her own child. Or someone who has other huge problems in her life (drugs, etc.). Do you actually know she does not want her child? OR is is poverty or stress taking away her ability to cope? If the latter, then it would be exploitive to take her child rather than help her find resources to keep her baby.

And i agree with previous posters: She should immediately be screened for PND and it be treated. NO adoption should be done while a woman is suffering this, or due to it. ONLY once she has been treated, the PND is totally gone, and she can think straight again.

She can sign custody of her child over to anyone she chooses. Contact an attorney to make sure everything is done legally.

Yes she can pick someone specific. She would need to write up a contract, her attorney needs to go over it, then your attorney needs to go over it.

There is lots of paperwork and time in an adoption but to answer your question, yes. A person can ask to adopt a certian child but both parents must sign the appropriate paperwork giving up all their rights to the child.

Actually yes she can. She just needs to go to a lawyer and the lawyer can draw up some papers to give the other person guardianship and then after that they can start the process for adoption.

yes...if its someone she knows they can hire a lawyer and do that but if she just wants to pick the couple she can go to an agency and they will let her look thru couples and pick the one she wants
