About the Adoptee Rights demonstration...?

Why is it being held in Philadelphia and not DC? Will any legislation concerning access to OBCs be up to individual states or is the push for it going to be on the federal level?

It is the host of the state legislators convention, they have one every year, last year it was in New Orleans. Legislators from every state will be there. It's the perfect place to get access to as many as we can at one time. |

I'm not highly educated about this, and don't know a lot of the terminology, but this is what I gather from what I've read over the last couple of years.
At this point in time, all adoption laws are decided at the state level. None are decided at the federal level, and probably won't be.
Each year, there is a meeting of legislators from all states. Last year, it was in New Orlean's. This year, it's in Philly. The demonstration takes place at the same time and place as this meeting (I forget what it's called) because this is the best time and place to contact all state legislators at once. It gets the message out fast, and blankets all states at the same time.
I'm sure someone who knows a lot more will come along and clarify my stumblings, but I hope that helps. |

The federal government plays no part in adoption law, other than on the most vage scheme of things (such as passing a bill in 2000 (Infant Adoption Awareness Act (2000)) funding programs that encourage mothers to surrender more babies for adoption.
States are in charge of adoption law. Thus lobbying the federal government will accomplish nothing. |

yup, like lori said, its a once a year thing. last year was new orleans and i have heard next year is in kentucky.
its our chance to have them all in one place at one time. |
