You need to get her evaluated by her pediatrician.

It's possible she's deaf, or that she's developmentally delayed. After only three months, though-- which is a very short time in the attachment process-- she may still be feeling anxious, confused, stressed, or grieving. Her lack of speech could be a psychological reaction to being uprooted to a new home, no matter how great that home is, or to past trauma from her background, whether abuse/neglect or the loss of her biological family.

The child needs to see a doctor, who can recommend proper therapies for her, whether it's something physical, cognitive, or emotional. Only a professional can distinguish between them, so please have her evaluated by a physician rather than relying on Yahoo for a diagnosis.

maybe ask a doctor and not yahoo answers?

If she's def then the adoption agency probably would have told you she's probably scared and depresed being in a new home try not forcing her to talk but building trust and showing her you are there to help

I'd ask to have her hearing checked and look back to what you know about her background. Ask your social worker if you need to. She could have been traumatized and this could be signs of it. If that is the case you need a specialist to help with the transition and helping her. Definitely call your doctor and ask for an appointment to address your concerns in person and have her checked out for hearing.

Yeah, I'm thinking you needs some doctors, and perhaps a specialist or 2.

Go now. It's better to find the problems now and start treatment early, than wait until the kid is older and the condition(s) are harder to treat.

You need a life. This is kind of a serious topic where people need real answers. But here you are not knowing what age you want to act like.
Hiding a puppy from your mom?

Or are you old enough to be adopting a child?

Stay in school and learn how to write correctly!

My brother has a very similar story. We adopted him when he was two months old and it took him a very long time to talk. Now he is 6 years old and talks just fine :) Just keep encouraging talking and realized that being quitet just might be her personality trait.

I worked in a daycare with 10-2 year olds at a time. Although they often had yelling, and noises, several of them didn't talk as well as they could have, because of being around strangers.

She's recently adopted. There's ways to test her hearing, such as dropping something loud on the floor with her back turned to you. If she turns her head, you know she isn't deaf. By doing this with a different sound in a different area, such as a whistle, you'll know she probably isn't deaf.

A child who is 2 and adopted probably is from the foster system, I'm assuming. In this case, she's probably been through some abuse, and at the age the abuse began, her mental development might need to catch up from that point, including communication. For instance, if she were first abused at 6 months, she might not have had the contact and stability to put forth the effort to learn to talk. Her situation could vary greatly, and she actually might be deaf, but see if she responds to music, both soft and lively. For instance, if you very softly sing her the A-B-C song, does she calm down, and if you play "Old Time Rock and Roll" and try to dance in a fun way, does she act like she hears anything?

Take your time and don't try to label her. Good luck, have patience, and there's things worse than being deaf. At least with the implants they can put in ears, and with the advances made in texting, and various communication devices, there's better ways to communicate with "normal" people. Good luck!

What does her doctor say? Have you considered taking her to a therapist?

put her in front of the TV, then stand behind her and clap your hands.. see if she reacts.. or say something to her like "wants Ice cream or candy". see is she responds..

getting her hearing checked might be a good thing also..

but it might be something as simple as her being afraid to talk..she is in a new place with new people..

Does she turn towards you when you call to her? or if there is a loud noise does she respond in some way?
You said you adopted her about 3 months ago. Do you know what her life was like before you got her? did she see or go through some kind of trauma/ordeal? We are foster parents to a little girl that will be 3 next month and she doesn't talk nearly as much as our 3 year old. She has been with us for 8 months now, but when we first got her all she did was make noises and point at what she wanted. now 8 mos later she is finally speaking 3 -4 word sentences.

If you are worried I would make an appointment with her dr and discuss everything and have her hearing tested.

Some kids are just late talkers but when they start you can't keep them quiet. LOL Some cases if this is an only child they will not learn to talk as soon as a 2nd child etc...

All kids are different so definately ask your dr.

take her to the doctor. he/she should perform some simple hearing test either they'd refer you to an audiology or speech therapy. but it take time to get use to someone especially a 2yr old.

HMM THATS SOUNDS SEROUS WHEN U TALK TO HER DOES SHE LOOK AT YOU IF NOT THEN SHE COULD BE DEAF AND ASK A DOCTOR TO HELP YOU TOO

Take her immediately to see her pediatrician. Sounds like she may need speech therapy. If you are in the Los Angeles area, look up and contact this school (Exceptional Children's Foundation) weather she is special needs or not. This school is stock-full of resources to help you advocate for your adopted 2yr old.

If you are not in Los Angeles, look up your local Regional Center, or ask your social worker to help you with this issue. Good luck! You are a very fortunate person to have this child. Take care!
