Yes, there is a free registry you can put your name on. Infact there are many. The largest offline soundex reunion registry which is a worldwide database and the one I personally think is the BEST is http://www.isrr.net ( it is also free )
There is some other stuff that you may want to look into doing as well. Requesting your non identifying information through Nebraska state. It says that your adoptive parents get it at the time of adoption as well so maybe you can save yourself some time and ask them for it too.
It looks like in order for you to get your birth certificate you'll have to petition the courts for it, they'll search for your surrendering parents and get their consent or refusal to release their identifying information. Here is the law:
"Obtaining an Original Birth Certificate: Adults who were adopted on or after September 1, 1988, can receive a copy of the original birth certificate, medical records on file, and information about agency assistance in searching, unless a natural parent has filed a non-consent form. Adults who were adopted before September 1, 1988, upon written request to the court, can receive identifying information and a copy of the original birth certificate if both natural parents have consented"

I can't add much to the previous excellent answers other than to say good luck and never give up - you will meet opposition along the way, but don't let it get you down - you have every right to know who you are and where you came from.
Oh, and you're not an adopted child - they want to treat us that way for evermore, but you are an adult and you have rights :) |
