The best and most responsible way to adopt if you are in the US or Canada is through foster care. There are plenty of wonderful children eligible for adoption who are waiting for loving homes while they remain in long term foster care. And the best part is there is no cost (or virtually no cost) to adopt these children. |

Adoptions should never cost anything. If you adopt through the government you actually get money. It only cost you if you deceide to get a child from another country. Churches also help parents to find the right fit. The agencys who want to have money are not legit and i would not go with them. Try to google for goverment agencies! |

Time and time again I see 'adopt from foster care'. It is an *excellent* idea, but not as easy as people seem to think. It is not free and the government does not pay for it - you get money back on your taxes to off-set some of the money you payed for the adoption.
"Cheapest center" is *not* good word usage, but there are some agencies that work on a sliding scale of your income. If you are absolutely set on adopting from an agency you can google 'sliding scale adoption agency' and you need to include your state.

There are many centers to use and they may vary by state. You can search your state DCS or DHS sites to find out the process of adopting in your state and they may have links to children and licensed agencies. Other ways would be to use a search engine to find agencies. Websites that profile children in the foster care system include: www.adoptuskids.org , www.nwae.org , etc. |

I would suggest looking to local agencies such as Lutheran Social Services or Catholic Charities. Adoption is not 'cheap', regardless of what you may have heard. There are fees associated with the home study process, etc. |
