Adopting a baby?

Adopting a baby?
|
I am a 19-year-old single guy and I intend on being single all my life. Don’t get me wrong I’m straight. I seriously want to adopt a baby so that I feel that I do have a meaning and purpose in this life. I want to buy the baby things, look after the baby etc.
What are my chances? And how do I go about achieving this goal?

Dude!
1) Get a Lab
2) Get some therapy
You can't use kids to fill your VOID, though many here think you can. Fill yourself up! |

You are wanting to adopt a child to give your own life meaning? You want to buy the baby things.... Ok, seriously have you considered what you have to offer a child in terms of family? A child doesn't just need "things" or "looking after". Children need loving homes regardless of material things and much more than just supervision. Wait about 9-10 years and if see you still feel the same way then. For now go and volunteer with children, be a camp counseller, be a Big Brother... There are lots of children that need mentors and could really use your guidance. Wait to be a parent, you've got years ahead of you and who knows, you might just find someone. |

I don't know adoption laws at all, but personally i think 19 is way to young to let someone adopt a child.
I don't care if you have a great job or great income.
You don't know who you are at all at 19, and to bring a child who has already lost their family into that kind of atmosphere where you at 19 still have a LOT of growing up to do as an individual is selfish.
Especially if you are a single 19 year old with no intent of marriage. |

Most things I have read require one to be 21 if not older in order to adopt. Once you’re 21 or older if you still want to adopt you will have to find an agency that allows single men to adopt. Because not all agencies/countries allow single father adoption, some don’t even allow single woman adoption, like China, only married couples can adopt there. As some have said your pretty young to rule anything out, who knows where you will be in 5 years, 8 years even 10 years.
I think adoption is fine but people don’t have to have children to give their life meanings there are many things that can give ones life meaning. Also one should want to adopt to give an orphaned child a home and love that needs it. Even if you don’t plan to marry does not mean you wouldn’t end up knocking some woman up though.
Perhaps you can join the Big Brother program or donated toys to a children’s home or hospital. Volunteer somewhere with children
As far as preparing to adopt one day, you can always start doing some light research see where you would be interested in adopting and what criteria they have, of course by the time you decided to adopt the criteria could change but it will give you an idea.. Get your education in something if not college, a skills school, work and safe money for a small bungalow so that you can be in a good neighborhood that has good schools. |

Like the 19 year old girl, you're just way too young for them to consider letting you adopt. You're really not mature enough to know what you need or what a baby needs. |

single men or women can adopt but you might have to be 21. I would suggest working hard to save money, maybe buy a house, have a good job, volunteer at youth things like YMCA, Boy or /girls Scouts and anything else involving children. But at your young age don't rule out marriage. If you met the right person you'd feel differently. |

Hi,
To adopt you need to be 21, if you are part of a couple then both of you need to be 21.
So looks like you have a few years to go yet before you can look into adopting.
In mean time if you are interested in working with children, then why not go and get a qualification in some sort of child care and do a few hours at a school or special needs school to get idea what job entails and if you feel you could be a parent.
Being a parent is 24/7 job and much harder when you have no support.

I heard of an English man who adopted triplets and raised them himself (though I could be wrong, his wife could have died at child birth, idk)
Ask your local agency! |

Sorry but this "me" generation does my head in. you know, me want this, me want that! Please consider beyond what you want (or believe you want), for today and consider just how long your life will potentially be....70 more years at least if you're lucky. If you truly believe that in the next 70 years you will never find some long-term relationship and make/create a family of your own, then you're either very strange (and should never adopt anyway), or very young and naive (and need to mature for a few more years before re-considering this question).
A baby is not an accessory to make or give your life meaning, a baby is a human being and you are their to make their life safe, secure and be loved as part of a loving relationship of whatever, type. They have tremendous capacity to totally alter your life for good and for bad. If you want something to dress up and buy for suggest you start with a small dog that will need considerable looking after and see how you get on, it is far easier to re-home if things don't go according to plan.
If you still feel this strongly and can make a good home for a child in a few years time but are still single, why not be a foster-parent first and then aim to adopt. This will test your level of committment and demonstrate your ability to be a good parent (more than others who need to, get). I would be a much greater supporter for you succeeding then.
Maybe what you really need is to find opportunities in life where you can feel worthwhile and useful in a caring capacity, perhaps you need to look at jobs within this kind of sector, as a volunteer in a children's care home maybe or training as a paediatric nurse. These would definitely give your life meaning and purpose.
I do, (you may be suprised to find), wish you well with a long and happy future where caring for children, yours included, play a significant part of it. They are terrifically rewarding, my own two included, but they and you need love and happiness in their lives and that is best (not only), found with lives shared not lived in isolation. |

you've got to be 21 mate and also i dont think they let single people adopt. i am looking into it now so i kinda know what i am talkin about. i want to adopt my fiances kids that live with us, but ive got to wait for another year: got to turn 21 and be with my partner (in a stable and healthy relationship) for at least 3 years. fortunately both birthday and anniversary happen to be in the same week!! yay!!
best of luck anyway and dont stop, it doesnt matter how many difficulties or obstacles ull have to overcome, if adopting a baby is what u want to do, keep on doing everythin u can to achieve this wonderful dream. ur a special person!!

Well you could become a foster parent and then when the kid is deemed a ward of the state, you are offered first dibs (so to say) on adopting the kid!!
That would be the best way, but trust me you will not be single all your life!! You are only 19 so you have time.. Mail order brides is the way to go!!
No knowledge of American cultural so they are happy with the simple things in life!! And Kids that is all they want.. |

OK, I am sorry of this offends but go and get yourself a cat or somthing.
"i want to buy the baby things, look after the baby etc'
WTF
There is soooooo much more than doing that with a baby. There is sooooo much more to adopting too!
Maybey you shouldnt plan your life out, just wait and see what is round the corner and live your life a bit.
You couldnt adopt as a single man. |

Do you have $27,000 laying around? That is how much it will cost to adopt a baby.
Your so young.....I admire your stance on adoption....but you have plenty of time. Babies are alot of work.....I know I had six weeks to get ready for one. Enjoy your twenties and revisit this decision at age 25+.
And I will tell you.....little kids need their mommy.
Nothing wrong with wanting to be single.....but please have a good female firend in your life to help you!!!
**** Everyone please understand that the foster care system is NOT the " KWICK - E - MART of the baby business"
It's not as simple as becoming a foster parent and adopting a child. **** |

firstly i think you need to be at least 21 to adopt
and secondly a child should be the product of a loving relationship.
go get yourself a girlfriend. |

Try foster care, they have lots of children who need a home and I don't think you have to be married. |

i say best of luck but i would wait til your a bit older in case your luck changes... i gave up on men when i was 15 after i few rough bad relationships... im now just about to turn 17 and found love .... im not sayin your'll meet your mrs right , right now but just wait a few years and see if you still want to go ahead with your goal.. cuz there is alot to consider such as ... will u get the support u need? will u ave enough money? will u ave enough time to care for the baby?? do u want to go back to college or go university and if u want a job whos goin to look after the baby?? see theres a lot to consider..... but i say best of luck with wotever u choice u make.. |
