Adopting a child from another country?
Find answers to your legal question.

Adopting a child from another country?

I'd like to adopt from Asia, or Europe.
My question is, how do I start?
Where do I begin?!

There is an organization KidSave International that has a summer visitation program. They also recommend international agencies, though I have great reservations about one of them.

Why don't you go to the KidSave website and read what they have to say?

Where to start? - The process is as follows, once you decide to adopt:

- decide what country you are looking to adopt from;

- select an international adoption agency that assists in adoptions from that specific country [my three favorites are Bless This Child, Inc.; Worldchild International, Inc., and Commonwealth International Adoptions, Inc. - to my knowledge, all three provide excellent service and are completely trustworthy];

- follow the adoption agencies instructions.

Kids overseas in orphanages have very rough lives and usually no future to speak of - your interest in bringing one of these children into your family is congratulated.

I'm sure there are children right on your doorstep who deserve a loving home too. Please don't by-pass them

We have chosen to adopt a child from Russia. Get in touch with an agency that handles adoptions from the country of your choice, and work with them. Get recommendations from other adoptive parents who have gone overseas; don't just pick an agency out of the phone book. You want to make sure your agency is reputable.

Please check out the website www.informedadoptions.com

There are many adoptive parents who have adopted from Asia and Europe that could answer your questions.

Find a reputable adoption agency, and ask around all the people you know who have either adopted or are in the process, possibly finding a message board online, where people can reccomend a certain agency. The reason being, there are hundred's of false dodgy agencies out there, and as you are going to need to trust them enough to give them, a crazy amount of money, make sure they are completly legal and everything. Also, you must make sure you are emotionally ready, if you choose to adopt a child over the age of say 3, from the other country, many of the children will have emotional baggage.. that may make a tricky situation once brought back to your home country.. good luck !
