If a friend is having a baby but doesn't want it, is there a way to adopt it without going through the courts?

No, you will have to go through a legal process to adopt the child.
Seek legal advice along with your friend to find out what steps need to be taken.
Also, I suggest that you make sure that your friend is really certain that they don't wish to keep the child. |

Would it be less complicated to just support her in raising the baby? Even if it takes here a long time to get it together, you could look after the baby for her. That is what would happen if a young mom was badly injured or deployed overseas, etc. Then if she decides to give up her rights later and it works out that is fine, but at least trying it out before making a permanent legal decision might give you a better indication of how forever will turn out... You would have to go through the courts and honestly you would want to. Otherwise at any time your friend could come right back and decide to parent. This would be pretty hard on all involved if say it was years later. You will have to do this through a lawyer and the courts. |

RUN!!!! I am kidding but i will tell you that adopting a friends baby is going to get very strange. Especially if your families are close.
You do have to have a lawyer and you need to do it now in case something comes up and you have to held your friend with money, this will most likely happen. I hope all goes well for you and that your friend does not need supplemental income, I was only partly kidding when i said run.
