Adopting a newborn child in Georgia?

My husband and I have a friend who introduced us to a young girl. She is unmarried and unable to care for a child she is carrying. We would like to adopt this child. My husband is 24, I am 23 and we have been married for over a year. We own our home, have very little debt, and are financially as well as mentally ready for a child. The information we have found online states Georgia is one of two states that require the adoptive parents to be over age 25. Is this true? Is this only if we adopt through an agency or the state, or does it pertain to private adoptions as well? Is there any way to get around the age requirement?

Thank you in advance for any information you can provide!

Glenda, Thank you so much for being mature. :) Have a nice day.

stuff you find on line is probably geared more for couples who are going thru an agency and they can have any requirements they want. Contact an adoption lawyer in your area to get information for your situation. Good luck

There is also income tax adoption credit that you came claim the year the adoption is final. Reading back over some of the answers, all I can say is God Bless you and don't take some of these people to heart. Infertility treatments can be just as tough as adoption, I have done both. Both can be drain on everything from your marriage to your money. Keep the faith and God will provide

My heart goes out to this young girl and her child. What about the father? What about the grandparents? Hopefully, they will intervene and prevent this poor child from being condemned to live his/her life with strangers and his/her mother from living a life of grief.

Have a nice day - and god bless.

Why not have your own instead of poaching one from someone else?

ETA: You are NOT "mentally ready", fresh off the infertility treatments at 23 to raise a stranger's child. Your immaturity shows when trying to "get around" the age requirement. What's your hurry?

Rasing a stranger's child is nothing like raising your own. Adopted children have suffered great losses that need to be understood and acknowledged by their adopters. Please do some reading about adoption from the adoptee's perspective and acceptance of your infertility before you launch into a social construct I'm sure you know nothing about.

EVERY child deserves to be more than a *filler* for someone's desperate grief.

You don't want a baby from Georgia anyway. They smell bad.

Yes the best advice her is to got to an adoption attorney that specializes in this. You do not need an agency at this point. It is mature of someone to realize they don't have the emotional nor financial resources to raise a child. This could work out best for all of the parties involved.

Hire an adoption lawyer. They will get you situated with state requirements. Most states require background checks (criminal records, housing, education). A social workers might do a home study. You may need letters of recommendations for the court to approve the adoption. You will need proof of employment, housing, stability, family history

There is no way of getting around any adoption requirements. You REALLY dont want to do that because you may have the baby in your arms then taken right back out once someone catches on to a mistake. So play by the rules it is after all in the best interest of the baby.

oh and just a fair warning in america the average cost of a private adoption back when i was adopted (23 years ago) was around $25,000. So you might want to consider that as well. It is a VERY expensive long heart aching (not breaking) processes.

(fees to consider: lawyer, birthmom's health care, maybe even living expenses, court frees, hospital fees (the birth alone is expensive), social worker fees, state fees etc.

Talk to an adoption lawyer, Since this would be a private adoption, it MAY be possible to take custody even though you are not 25, if you meet and exceed every other part of the home study. Don't bother asking questions on here, they are not specific to YOUR case. Hire a lawyer who specializes in adoptions, its the only way you can adopt, and the only person who can answer your questions.
