Adopting from Mexico or South America...info?

I would eventually like to adopt a child. I would love to adopt a child from India but with all of the world fighting- I just don't know if it's that easy anymore- not that it was easy to begin with...

So I am thinking about Mexico or South America... Has anyone adopted from there before? I think even the traveling is possibly easier then going halfway across the world- but I read in Mexico they sometimes make you stay with the child for a 6 month period?

Any stories or advice? Any information would be great... Just checking out my options rather early in the game...
thanks in advance

(also, i majored in Anthropology in college so I am very open and accepting of cultures- i know two other languages and i am working on spanish now... just to... put that out there! ha)
Additional Details
people are so quick to judge aren't they? everyone has an agenda, oy...

Hola! There is one of my few Spanish words, lol. It is amazing that you are wanting to adopt. I suggest contacting an adoption ageny or a lawyer specializing in adoption, they will be able to guide you and you will have correct info from them. I wish you luck!!

EDIT: For all of those idiots that keep saying you should not be adopting from another culture; you obviously have led extremely sheltered lives. My FIL is from Mexico and whenever we as a family go and visit his dad and siblings we drive thru areas where thousands of people are literally living in cardboard boxes, like the entire town Rosalita, which has a population of somewhere aroun 30,000....al living in boxes or shacks. The US foster kids at least have a nice dry roof over their heads, they have resources to go to school and clothes on their backs. Children from other countried do not have those luxuries. So I will repeat what I said earlier.....good for you for wanting to adopt from another country!!!

Hi ! I am an Indian from India, and an adoptive parent too.

"Don't take a child from his culture and language from a third world country" is a phrase used by people from the Western culture mostly.

I think India is also a good choice if you wish to explore International adoption. There are millions in Indian orphanages looking for a home. They have been abandoned due to being the least desired gender (girl) or they were kids out of wedlock and ofcourse obviously poverty or theyr were special needs. You will find poverty a common factor for abandonment in most poor countries. BUT cultural taboos of raising a girl child and disgrace of child out of wedlock are seen in Asian countries only. In my country domestic adoption is uncommon as adoptions are looked down upon in general. So the children end up languishing in orphanages and graduating from there.

These children first and foremost need parents , love and affection before culture, language and customs.

Its largely most Indian peoples dream to get a piece of the life that the "West" offers. So, No the adopted kid won't regret having being pulled out of his country as long as you give him love and care for him like a parent.

Although no matter where you adopt from plz do honor the child's culture, customs and language in the best way you can.

Here's a website that will get you started on International adoptions including Indian adoption.

You should consider foster care children here in the US instead of taking a child away from their native home.

why is it so important to take a kid from another culture? leave them alone!

US foster care. that's where it's at. especially if you are doing this fr the right reasons and sincerely want to provide a home for a child in NEED....

not get an accessory to fulfill YOUR needs. yuck.
