Adopting my friends baby?

Adopting my friends baby?

my friend had a baby a few months ago and she asked me to adopt her baby. she just isn't in the right place in her life to have a baby. she has health problems and is struggling to support herself. i have been staying with her and helping as much as i can but i do need to be home with my husband too. i was wondering how to go about the process of adopting her baby? (we live in wisconsin) please not harsh criticism. this is what the decision is and we are not changing it.

no this is not the same friend as i was disscussing before. if you could check the dates its a little impossible dont you think? and if you must know my husband and i have appointments of our own to see a fertility specialist.

Is it the same friend you talked about here?

edited to add: You're right ,the dates are pretty close. Still, you seem to have a lot of women offering you their babies.

No, I don't need to know if you and your hubby have an infertility specialist appointment. I just find it odd that you have had 2 women in the past month or so offer you a baby. That's Lifetime Movie Network worthy.

oops. edited again, for your viewing pleasure. Yet another "friend" who may be pregnant. You say your hubby is 19, and you are 22 and that you have been trying to conceive for 3 1/2 years. That would have made your hubby 15 1/2. Try and get your stories straight before you troll around. Us adoptees are REALLY good at solving mysteries.

linny, your analysis and research skillz are impeccable. you could teach my grad students a few things :-)

but i'll bite...maybe she's so fabulous that women are just handing over their kids fresh from the womb... who knows. perhaps her mojo is that fierce.

Seeing that the baby is a few months old, the really hard part is done and I congratulate you for helping her. If you really are her friend, encourage her that she is through the hardest part and help her to keep her child.

I have to be blunt though, you appear to be more an opportunist hanging on to claim her baby than a friend.

Um, don't forget the birth father....he has rights too!

All your other questions deal with trying to conceive after 3 1/2 years, so this must be your dream...., but are you sure this is "your friends" dream?
Taking her baby while she is having health problems....I bet that will come back to bite you in the ***, when she feels better.

I think as a friend you should be helping her to do what she can to keep the baby.

Also... Linny, I think you are amazing with your analytical skills! I remember these other questions, and this leads me to wonder if we have yet another troll on our hands here!

Call your local Child services office or a lawyer they can tell you what you need to do in your state. Also the birth father may need to give up his rights as well as mom.
god bless you can your family!

as I have answered in one of your other posts, you both must be 21 or over to adopt in Wisconsin but first you must get foster care certified. And both must be 21 for that too. Plus been married for 2 years. And have quite a few thousand of dollars. Go to an adoption lawyer and you'll find out.

i think that's awesome :) at least she has admitted she cant take care of her child. she gave it a shot, but, failed.
i just wanted to say that. you are doing a GREAT thing by giving this baby a good home. i don't know how to go about adoption, sorry i couldn't help. congrats though

I think it's wonderful to adopt and very courageous of your friend to make that sort of decision.

However, some red flags in my mind are:
-make sure it is done legally!

-decide now what kind of relationship the child will have with the birth mother, aka your friend.

-make sure that your friend isn't just looking for someone to pay for and raise her child for her, when she still expects to have authority over the child. Make sure she knows that after this is done, she will have no legal right on how the child is raised, and that as the legal parents you may make decisions that she doesn't agree with.

-keep in mind that this is a very beautiful thing, but it can turn ugly between birthmother/adoptive parents, aka friend/friend and try to take as many precausions as possible to prevent this.

I wish your family and friend the best with whatever happens.

Wow good for you and your friend. Anyone who wants to criticize should stick it up their a**. I am not 100% sure but i think that she would just go through the agency as anyone else would. Except she would already have you picked out as the Mother so their wouldn't have to be that whole long process. Is shouldn't take to long a few months maybe.

GL to you and i think that you are a GREAT person and a wonderful friend :)
