My husband and I recently found out that we can not have children so we want to adopt. He is adopted so we have been planning on adopting for sometime now. He is in the marine corps and he will be leaving for Afghanistan in 3 months will we be able to adopt in that time frame? Or will i be able to do the paper work with out him here?

My husband and i have had this very same problem. It will take much longer then 15 months to adopt so i would suggest you just start the ball rolling. You can do your part and then wait for him to do his. I am sure someday when we have a child in our home it will be worth it but as a person in your same situation and almost ready to adopt, it is a headache. I hope and pray all will go well for you. We were doing foster care adoption but lost hope when the army gave my husband orders. Then a friend of the family asked us to adopt her unborn child. We are ecstatic at the possibilities but with the move coming we will be paying for 3 homes while i stay here, he moves, and the birth mother can't work (and of course paying the lawyer to make this all work). I hope you will adopt and all will be well for you i just wanted to give you some idea of how hard it can be.

i think it takes longer than 3 months if i remember right. and he will have to be there to go through the paper work and the procedures. i believe they also come and look at ur house. why dont u wait until hes home? i take it hes going to be deployed for 12 months? Waiting would be a better idea that way u can save enough money for both the adoption and while hes gone u can get little by little for the baby's needs...clothes, crib, etc...plus ur hubby will be there to experience u bringing the child into your home and life...it might be confusing for the child going though the adoption and then another year or so without seeing who daddy will be. just a though.
i know its frustrating planning around military schedule...my husbands in the army and every time we try to plan something the army steps in...you can always find the nearest agency and call or go visit and find out what all would need to be done prior to adopting and how much it would cost and so on and so forth...that way you also have a general idea. good luck and tell your man to be safe... |

more than likely you will not be able to do it in 3 months, you may be able to sign for him if you have a power of attorney I would make sure to have one made specifically for the adoption so there isn't any doubt what you can use it on. Good Luck |
