You'll have to have a home study done by a licensed social worker, who will view your home, interview you, etc. There are laws in each state, such as how long you've been married, etc, in order to adopt. You'll have to research your laws in order to know what your state has.
If you have any felonies, abuse charges in the past, etc, or if you don't qualify under your state laws, you might not be eligible.
An attorney can draw up the consent to adopt forms. She'll have a certain amount of time after the baby is born (ranging from when the papers are signed to a year, depending on state laws) to take the baby back.
I did an adoption similarly to your situation in Arkansas. It was really pretty simple, however, you must have enough time in order to do it. I had several months to get the home study, etc, in order before hand. Also, ask her to sign a paper that you get the baby in the event of her death (very unlikely, but I'm sure she'd rather have you get it than the state).
Also, you'll have to obtain the father's signature in order to adopt the baby. Do everything the legal way, that way, there won't be any surprises that could be traumatic in years to come. |

You will need to seek an attorney and he will be able to walk you through this process. Good luck. |

Get a lawyer that handles adoptions and go from there. The lawyer will run through all the paperwork with you and the mom (birthfather if known will also need to sign off on the adoption too). Then when the baby is born you will take him/her home and if the birthmother doesn't change her mind the adoption will be finalized and the baby will be yours. |
