Adoption - Home Study Questions??

Can anyone tell me what the home study process entails... would like to know the questions that would be asked as part of it and get a better feel for what it is all about.

The home study questions consist of you telling your case worker about your life. You start with your parents how they raised you what kind of discipline they used, they ask about siblings, name ages & where they live and your current relationship with your family and go on into adulthood.

How many times have you been married or divorced. They ask each persons name and why you divorced or what made you get together how you met how many children you have, their ages and their spouses if married. They ask how long you've been married and ask what you like or dislike about your spouse, and if you could change anything what would it be?

They pretty much want to know anything in your life that could have caused you to be emotionally unstable or a possible child abuser, or someone with a hot temper, or were you abused as a child? Were you molested, did you ever see your parents fight what was that like?

The answers are written down as you give them then they have you go over what you said, and correct it if need be, then sign it.

They do a walk through of where the child will sleep and make sure you have a bed for them. It is about a 2 hour interview.

Mom to Foster Children
Are you healthy
Any financial problems
Does the child have it's own room
Where will the child sleep
Do you have a fire plan for escape

etc...it's pretty simple!

So many questions, I could never remember them all. There is a list of questions about your maturity, finances, employment stability, family support, resources to meet child's needs, emotional stability mental stability, floor plan of home with designated spot for child, home safety check, plans for child care. I am sure I am forgetting some, probably a lot.

In addition to the above....

how were you parented
hang ups from childhood you may have
problems that me be going on in the family now

It is nothing to be afraid of; of course that is easier said coming from the person who about died when the dog decided to start frantically humping her toy when the social worker was doing our home study!! And they still passed us!

Well you agency or the foster care coordinator should be answering all of these questions thoroughly for you!

The home study is designed to ensure that you can and will provided a proper home for the child. You'll be interviewed, generally apart from your husband and asked about your marriage, your home and your family background. How do you handle conflict? What sort of relationship do you have with your parents? How do you plan to handle discipline?

The social worker will examine your home to ensure that you have the proper space and that everything is reasonably well cared for and in order.

The interview will tend to revolve around any potential concerns they have based on your other paperwork. Be prepared to discuss any minor health concerns or previous marriages, things like that.
