Adoption. How can I help my step daughter better understand it?
|
The process was really fast! People told me it'd take years. We're set to pick our little girl up from Ethiopia on the 4th. Would it be a good idea to bring my step daughter along with us? she's four. And how can I better her understanding of it?

Please ignore the responses (not the USERS, the *responses*) that the above few users are giving you about calling your daughter a "daughter" instead of a "stepdaughter."
Because that's what she is - your stepdaughter. I don't think those users even read the question correctly, sheesh.
I think it would be a good idea to bring her with you when you go to greet your child for the first time.
You might want to explain to her that adoption is just another way of creating a family and that there's nothing wrong with adding someone to your family through a different method. |

I agree with Kristy. Stop calling her your step Daughter, because techically this isn't your daughter either. You are adopting her. Treat them both the same.
I would bring her along. It will make her feel a little better about it. |

1. Stop calling your step daughter your "step" daughter. A daughter is a daughter.
2. I think it would be a great idea to take her with you. I think it would benefit both girls. :-)
3. Congratulations! |

There are some wonderful books in her age range you could get. Also, please don't come here for answers-people are vicious and nasty here at times...must be feeding time. |
