Adoption Pension? What is the proper term for money adopted people get?

I could really use a pension for adopted people as a down payment on a new car right now!

Never heard of such a thing. They get whatever their parents leave them if anything. Some people who adopt through foster care get a monthly check to assist them but it stops at 18

I've never heard of an Adoption pension or anything similar other than possibly being named as a beneficiary at the death of an adoptive parent.

Who told you that there was such a thing?

Pre 18 or until the child graduates and in some cases this is until they are 21.........
It is called an adoption subsidy or adoption assistance. It is
funded by the state the child comes from to helps offset some of the costs of raising special high needs children. In our case we have a two medically fragile boys, one needing round the clock care. For all you that snub your nose (you know who u r ) these children come from institutional or state funded housing with 24 hr. supervision or medical care. Any idea the cost involved for 1 months care? My kids had been available for adoption for years. It is a life time comittment with many costs. Being on a fixed income we would not have been able to adopt these kids without some financial help.
After they are out of school the only financial help I'm aware of is if they qualify for SSI (social security)

p.s. I love my kids and my Jaguar is parked in the garage next to my 96' Geo..........

In Minnesota, it's Adoption Assistance but it's given to the parents to provide for the additional needs that come with a special needs adoption.

In my area there is what is referred to as "supports for permanence" however that is assistance to the family from time of adoption till when the child is 18. The assistance is given to assist in the upbringing of special needs children adopted through foster care only. Private adoptions and international adoptions do not qualify. Parents have the freedom to use it as needed for anything or saving all or part of it for the child's future. Counseling, vocational training, physical therapy, social activities (scouting, guiding, YMCA...) are just some of the things that I know people use it for however they can use it for anything. We've chosen to put most of it away in an RESP for my daughter so her education will more then be paid for but thats our personal choice. At 18 it ceases.

I've never heard of anything given after that time just by virtue of someone having been adopted.
