First i would start with your local family services and get licensed as a foster parent. You will have to go through that first anyway to have a child placed in your home.
They have adoption fairs where you go and meet kids that can be adopted in many areas.
Also go to myflorida.com and find the link about adoption. you can actually see the children up for adoption and if you go through the interstate compact from your state and florida,florida will help pay for the adoption for a child adopted from florida. You recieve subsidy payments (child support) and that child goes to college in florida FREE!!!!!!
Most states have the same type of websites on their state site but all states have different adoption rules and etc....

If foster care or foster adopt scares you, have you thought about international adoption? There are a lot of older kids (5-9) that are waiting for forever families.

There are also younger children here in the US that have also been released for adoption that are also waiting for permanent homes - these children that have alread had their parents rights terminated, so there would not be that fear of them being in your home and then taken away.

My husband and I are foster parents. We began as adoptive parents, but after a year of no placements, we decided to do foster care. While we worried about the difficulty of sending the children home, we did it anyway. Even though it is hard when the kids go home, it has been a great and rewarding experience. We are also planning on adopting the children we have in our custody right now. If I were you, I would still consider the possibility. I felt the same way as you do, and it is so hard when they go home, but we have some wonderful memories of all the children. I wouldn't give tha up for the world!

I don't know if they would let you adopt right now at your age. They like you to be stable with a good income etc. You might want to consider being a big sister or girl scout troupe leader or something of that nature. I know that is not raising a a child but it is helping a child. I know you said you didn't want to have them ripe away but even growing up your children leave you to live their own lives. Its something we all must face and its hard. Good luck

Go talk to your local foster agency. They have all sort of links and kids that need a good safe home. Also good for you for adopting an older child! Not many people will do that. They all want babies. Also if you live in a city look into Foster group homes.
